8675 RAI in UK?

Does anyone in the UK listen to Italian radio? If so, can you tell me how you do it?! I listen to BBC radio on-line with Real Player but maybe I don't have the right equipment for Italian radio. Unfortunately we live in an area without cable and we don't have a satellite dish either. It doesn't have to be RAI, by the way, anything that will help to prevent the 'I'm useless' feeling when first going back to Italy and hardly understanding a thing they say. I found on this last visit that even 10 minutes in the morning helped so I'm keen to continue if possible. Thanks.

Annie.

PS If you can help, please use words of one syllable, nothing too technical!

Does this mean you won't consider one? Rai is on various satellites and one of them must blanket the UK. The cost of a free to air setup is relatively modest these days.

Other then that various Italian podcasts can be downloaded. Pick a subject you're interested in. Point Itunes to the Italian section and click away. Itunes will download the ones you want when new ones show up.

This seems fairly comprehensive Italian Radio Stations Online

Nick, we live in a listed building and won't get permission to install one.

Thanks TuscanHills, I'll try this.

Go here:

Rai.it - Radio

Click on: Diretta radio

Choose the station you want. This should start Realplayer and away you go.

If you havn't got Realplayer then it will prompt you to download it. Just choose the free version there is no need for any of the fancy versions.

Whilst listening if you click on the "Naviga" link on realplayer it will enlarge the window and you can switch stations as you want.

If you like it you can "right-click" on the Realplayer and create a desktop shortcut so that in future you can go straight there without bothering with the Rai pages.

Good luck

The guy across the street has one in the garden with a gnome on either side of it :laughs: You need to look at it to even know it's not part of the garden. Works fine. I half remember somebody making a dish cover that looked like a rock but maybe I'm not remembering right.

Take care of your sat dish the lady opposite me uses the receive bar bit to hang her peg bag on!

Hi Annie
In answer to your question. If you have wireless internet at home, you could buy a wifi radio. I bought mine online from Currys. It cost about £50.00.
I found that it was simple to set up and use, the quality is excellent and you can receive radio stations from all round the world, including Rai.
Hope this helps
Sue

I have tried both your link, Chris, and yours Sally, and although I can play the song clip on Radio Italia's webpage, I cannot get a peep out of an actual station. Perhaps you could give me a step by step 'how to' Chris! Please!

Ah Sue, now you are getting technical. I shall have to ask the O H about this; but thank you for the suggestion.

Small and expensive :eerr: Didn't remember those things :wideeyed:
Does anyone in the UK listen to Italian radio? If so, can you tell me how you do it?!
I used to use Worldspace radio, a satellite radio system that can be received usign a portable radio. However that service has fallen apart and as far as I know there are no longer any Italian channels and the system has gone subscription only. This means my expensive radio that used to give me BBC channels in Italy and RAI/RDS in the UK is now a paperweight.

I did find the RAI website with its streaming over the web service and listen to this often. RAI also broadcast the highlights of their output as podcasts via iTunes. You can also watch television from RAI Uno, Due e Tre.

Start here: Rai.it - Home Page

When you get there look for the links to the right of page (at present) and click on the channel you want to listen to or watch.

I'm currently enjoying Spazio 1999 in the original Klingon^W Italian.

Ciao Annie,

Try this link:

Rai.tv - Classica Live

It should take you directly to the RAI classical radio. You can then navigate to another station using the box on the lower left. If it doesn't work try turning your firewall off, & try again . If it now works turn your firewall back on & see if it has learnt what to do!

Perhaps a couple of others forumeers can try the link and see if it works on different computers

Pip pip

You can keep up to date with news etc on this link which provides video as well as audio.
