8676 Are you here permanently?

Hi all,

I thought it would be interesting to see how many of us are here permanently, have a holiday home or are just thinking about it.

Hi P.

There's quite a few of us in the process of renovating properties to make a permanent move, BTW.

Yup the options may be a bit limited - we have a holiday home but we have every intention of making it our full time home within the next 4-5 years when my stepson is a bit older.

Sorry guys - can't seem to find a way to add a choice.

Anyone know how?

We don't have a holiday home, our house in Abruzzo is our second home but we've never thought of it as a holiday home. Although the need to earn a living means we have to return to the UK often, home is really in Central Italy, it's just we can't live there permanently yet.

I know it's possibly a bit corny but home really is where your heart is. And for us, during all the years we only had a holiday home here, it was certainly Italy. Those of you still split between two countries, don't you spend practically all your time in the other place longing, planning, dreaming of coming back? Know we used to, constantly.

Quite a lot of our time, yes ... but not to the exclusion of enjoying life in the meantime. Living for the future is a dangerous sport: your dreams may fail for any number of reasons; or once achieved, they may not live up to expectation if they have been hyped too highly.

My advice is lots of planning, a little dreaming ... but take plenty of time to appreciate all thats good about the people & places currently around you, too.

We have been coming to Marche for 15 years, to visit my brother, but made the move 6 years ago and now running a country house. We wish we had done it sooner, as maybe we wouldn't be quite so Kn******d and feeling our age!

I could not agree more, basically it is a matter of enjoying the present and planning for, or better dreaming about, the future. Then we live without regrets.

I assume that was you on Channel 4's "A Place in Italy" that's showing this week, [Not the main characters, but as one of the sub-plots]

When was it filmed?

If you have 'Freeview' in UK, its also on 1 hour later on "Channel 4 +1"]

Alas and alack we have neither T.V (sky or otherwise) and extremely slow Internet access so all this means we can't get it! Sob. I do so miss Radio 4, and in my home in the U.K (when I had one), it was on constantly. My son, blesses his cotton socks, really tries and has downloaded onto my i pod a series of episodes of The Archers (yep... I know I'm sad).
Is this the same series where the couple looked first in Le Marches and then in Abruzzo…I think He ended up buying in Abruzzo. Was there a final programme that showed what happened and where they eventually bought?

Hi, and an especial Hi to Villa Sibillini

We have been glued to the tv at 1.30 italy time, at the moment we get channel 4 on our uk sky service. Glad to see you are still ok VS - read your post on this thread). Did the Paul and his understanding wife ever find anything. How is the other English woman with the teenage daughter? Hope all are ok.

I think this was filmed 2003/4 but I am sure VS will let us know.

We also came here in 2003 and we were shown the 'dreaded abbey'. We looked in the Marche for a couple of days but because we needed a quick start for a holiday business have settled in Arezzo (Tuscany). Also our season is only in the Summer.

VS don't know how you do all year round!!

Best wishes

Just found this thread and thought we had better vote! Was surprised at the high percentage of full timers amongst the voters.
Also we know of a good view more forum members here full time who have not voted yet!
