8747 Trains from Venice to Rimini

Hi

I am travelling with 3 children from Venice to Rimini and had a few questions that I hope some of you may be able to anwser.
Firstly how far is it from Marco Polo airport to venice train station, what roughly would a taxi cost and what other modes of transport are available to get us there ?
And secondly is it cheaper to book train tickets before arriving in Italy and if so what happens if flight delayed and we miss the train ?
Thanking you in anticipation for your time.
Regards
Jeff

There is a very cheap bus by road from Marco Polo to Venice. The stop is just across from the main exit at the airport. If you have time you can get a one day vaporetto pass which you can use on the bus from the airport and have a trip up and down the Grand canal or even out as far as the Lido. The bus takes about 20-30 mins into town - its faster and cheaper than the waterbus which tales you to St Marks. The station is just across the bridge from the Piazzale Roma bus stop.
I think you can buy tickets in advance and reserve seats online a month or so prior to your trip.
Do try to see a bit of Venice if you can - even if its only an hour or so going up and down the G Canal. You want boat no 1 or 82. 82 has fewer stops.
Hope that helps

Oh just to add a water taxi which would be wonderful will cost between 80 and 100 euros depending on the route -worth the extra 20 to go up the G Canal rather than just see the outskirts.
They are fantastic but hugely pricy. A great treat for the children if you're feeling wealthy!
Road taxi would be much less I'm sure but not sure how much - might as well take the bus.

Many thanks for that Marinaw, the bus sounds ok. I have been to Venice with the kids before but we have always arrived by bus from Jesolo, your right it is worth the effort so long as you have'nt got to push a pram around. Many thanks again.

yes prams + bridges = nightmare. The bus is easy and quick and you dont have to fight your way far at all to the station. Watch out for pickpockets round there!

Thanks ill keep tight hold of my wallet. Do you know Is the train station on the main land or across the road/rail bridge to venice.

venezia - S-L is the final venice stop - its in Venice itself over the causeway - or you could always go straight to Mestre station on the mainland. (I think all trains stop there) There is prob a bus there from Marco polo. S Lucia is a great station though - one of the few modern buildings in Venice that *works* and they are dead proud of it.

You can book on the Raileurope site. If you can choose to print the tickets off yourself or they charge £5 to send. For a short journey (4hrs or less) it's easier to buy tickets at the station as they are so cheap. ei Rome-Pescara 11euros single.

We've found that trains arrive at the destination anything from 10 mins -1hour later than they should so try to allow for this when making plans.
