8757 What fruit and vegetables grow well in Garfagnana, Northern Tuscany?
Can anyone give me the benefit of their experience in growing fruit and vegetables in this area? We are at about 1000 feet. There is about an acre of flat land next to a stream, the rest is steep hillside and chestnut woodland. A mature sharon fruit tree, three fig trees and a walnut are present. The smallholding fell into disrepair about ten years ago I believe.

Probably a good idea to see what your neighbours are growing, and if your Italian is up to it have a chat with them, also the local markets sell what everyone is planting, so ask the stallholder there. Even if your Italian isnt brilliant, a few well chosen words should do the trick, and everyone will want to help, advise and disagree with each other!.
