8716 cost of heating gas in le marche

i think this information will help many customers who bought a house here:
the official cost of gpl (gas for heating) is around 90 cents, this cost is applied to many uk customers, because they don't know how to manage and deal those kind of things, but with us they know that we can change the supplier in a few days.....so they apply discounts : this depend basically on how much you use but also they discount immediately when they see the intention to change supplier.

so a normal cost for a vacation house will be around 60/70 cents, for higher consumption 60, for groups of customers in the same area...even 57!!! think about! the best would be to create an association of users and get the best price.

I would be really interested to know how we can get the cost of filling our gas tank down. Please could you provide more information on how we can do this? Our tank could do with filling within the next few months. Our house is used primarily for summer lets, but we use the house in the winter also and use a lot of gas heating the house as it's quite large.

Thanks

hi strawberrystar, send me an email at mpmsrlit@libero.it , i will need some information and will give some advice

Yes it's quite easy to get cheaper gas here in Italy, but there are a few points missed by "Mcandrew".
Firstly it depends if you are on contract still with your current gas supplier. Most initial contracts are for 2yrs and for that time you are stuck paying their cost per litre. That said if you can prove to them that other gas suppliers in your area charge less per litre they might lower your costs. My own initial contract was for 50 cents per litre, but by the end of the contract I was paying 64 cents per litre, which isn't bad consider what others are paying.
If you arn't on contract its easy just phone all the main suppliers like "Total" or "Agip" and play each other off agianst the other. As they all need new business most will give a lower cost per litre for a new customer. I would suggest that it is possible with a few phone calls to get 45 cents per litre.
Like I said Phone, phone, phone!

you are right "cacciatore",of course it's important to check the contract to see if you are binded for 2 or 3 years, that's why i was asking more information before giving suggestions, i would be more prudent about the 45 cents as,for what i know, this is lower than what the big companies are paing today,i pay 55 but i'm in a special cathegory (commercial) as i spend about 5/600 euro/month, so a reasonable price for vacation houses would be from 60 to 70 cents, than remember that playing with 2 or 3 companies trying to put them in concurrency is not so useful because they communicate between them (almost always, for sure the 3 biggest do)and will act in consequence, better to deal with the one more present in the area and refuse to sign the contract until they offer the good price or send the letter to change supplier.....and wait the visit with the discount!

When we had our gas tank filled for the first time last spring, we got a discount for the commune we lived it. I could not understand why but my neighbour thinks it is because our village is above 600 metres. As it was a discount and not a surcharge I was not complaining.

Does anyone know about these discounts?, I think I saw Sebastiano post re a discount for being in a mountain area, but I also heard something about a discount from the comune for villages who were not served by mains gas, anyone enlighten me please.

[Slightly off topic - but not much]

There was a very interesting article on BBC Radio 4 Today programme yesterday, about a village [in UK] that had joined together to have heating oil delivered to several houses at one time, rather than each arranging their own deliveries. By cutting down the number of tanker trips from the depot, they negotiated a substantial discount from the supplier who now made many fewer trips to the area, but topped up several houses oil tanks in one visit.

Any mileage to be made in doing something similar with your neighbours in Italy?

.

As far as I know, many Comunes subsidise/offer a discount mainly because many rural areas have no direct feed gas. The above 600 metres thing is probably because you are more likely to need more gas for heating as it is colder.
Our house is at 630 mtrs and the area has no direct gas yet. We get a discount but I don't know if it's because we are above 600 mtrs or no direct gas, or both.

We do not have mains gas either - perhaps it is both.

Mcandrew,
Just interested. You say your in a special "cathegory". Well I must be in a extra special "cathegory" as I only pay 50 cents per litre and I only ordered 500 litres this year!
Does this mean your project management skills arn't as good as mine on getting cheap gas?

Hi
We have benchmarked gas prices from a number of companies and like Andrea don't believe that 45cents is realistic- last year we paid 55c via an Umbrian company Lampogas- they have an agent here in Le Marche (San Ginesio) called Simone his number is 393.1855323. That included the bombola being installed underground.. Better still, if you are here in the winter you should seriously consider a wood burning camino- whilst it costs about €2000 for a fire that heats 200m2 you will reduce your heating costs to €4-5 per day- so we're talking about quite a quick payback if you are here for most of the winter.

Well Da-damiano,
As I already said I didn't have to phone round and benchmark prices. All I did was contact a couple of suppliers and "agip" gave me 50 cents a litre.
Of course using wood is a better alternative to gas but thats another debate "strawberrystar" just wanted to know costs per litre.

Surly thats the same as phoning around ?

DandR,
As damiano put it "phoning round and benchmarking prices", I was making the point that I didn't need to benchmark anything. I guess it comes down to natural charm you have it or you don't. Getting the lowest price doesn't take alot of work as I've already shown.

The discount to do with mountains do not depend on how high you are it depends on whether your town is designated as being in a mountainous area- Montalto is only 561slm (or something like that) and we get the discount
