You have forgotten your Highway Code, Mark! Triangles are Warnings......

actually i'd never seen one, the sign i mean,we don't have them here, the signs i mean, but i know that several..many?..comuni in Veneto put them up to discourage curb crawling they photograph you negotiating,,with the lady i mean, then they send you a copy of the picture with the fine so your wife can see it too (you and the lady ,i mean) it's the punitive element that excites them.....

One wonders why they need to put up such signs -

[unless its to indicate an 'approved' area for the 'ladies of the night' to ply their trade, as I can see it encouraging them to move into certain areas]

it's a miracle they find any clients in such a devout, family oriented country as Italy.

It makes a change to the usual burning of old car/truck tyres on the roadside to advertise their wares, though.

And, have you wondered why there are so many old white garden chairs by the roadside? Wonder no longer...

strange .......... not one female member has joined this thread LOL

JRR was male, but Nielo isn't AFAIK? My avatar's female, and yours is simian ... should we be worried?

hangs head in shame.....and further still cos I have to ask...... AFAIK??????

no shame involved, AFAIK = "As Far As I Know" ...

Anyone looked closely at the 'image' on the sign?

My first thought was that she'd been enhanced by someone using a bleck felt tip pen.

But. ....once the whole picture is 'blown up' - it doesn't necessarily look like a real sign anyway - I think its just a electronicaly made up warning triangle

Good joke though if it is

TVM.......ROTFLMAO

And just yesterday the news had a clip on how brothels were legal until 1958.

That's a yield sign isn't it?

Not wishing to come over all "CSI", but if you do have a really good look at the the space between the triangle and the oblong, you can see a gap, and through that gap you see can see the trees...my money would say that its real......speaking of money.......somebody please buy me a life ...HEHHEHE

The picture is real, of a real sign, taken with a real camera by a real friend.

I can just imagine the fun the designer had coming up with the image, note the high heels and the handbag amongst the other clues as to the ladies profession!

actually it may not be a "real" sign - there was a story a few years back that pimps in Romania were putting up fake (but highly realistic) signs to alert drivers to their girls waiting further up the road ... maybe this is just the latest gift that Romanian migration has brought to Italy?

(for deborahandricky who look so closely at these signs...!)

The sign is definitely 'real' I've seen it on the camera mentioned above myself.

Yes ....I can confirm that that is Bull Poo

On the subject of "fake" signs , the strange little red necked village that we lived close too for many years suddenly acquired a sign fastened to the same post as the village name. Having never seen "The league of gentlemen" we never twigged to the connection of this sign which read, "Are you local"
Pilchard

When the royal mint was moved to Llantrisant in South Wales, a local wag put up a sign saying, Welcome to Llantrisant, the hole with the mint.

Excuse my ignorance, but is "prostitute" an Italian word?

Lemma Traduzione in sintesi
prostituta s.f. prostitute.
prostituto s.m. (non com.) male prostitute

So Ok I am probably cushioned here from the reality of what life is, but my village boasts a sign to say do not blow your horn, and we have a new sign to say no more than 50k through our village, not sure how this is enfoced, but have seen police monitering it, and we all tut very loudly if someone goes too fast, and the comune is also very keen on keeping it a safe place to to live, the only "funny" notices I can recall are road signs pointing to dirt road with a steep drop, and lots of undergrowth, we dont take it, perhaps its the Italian sense of irony?
A

Our village also has signs that advise not to blow your horns. But when you see the local Vigili, Carabinieri, etc, tooting to all their friends as they cruise around (even at 2am!), you tend to not bother complaining to them about others doing it.

This sign is not far from where I live. I've never quite got that far out in the fields in a car though, only by bike...

It's just got to be a 'picnic' deterrent!
