[quote=gbramhall;84092]I am going camping to the Italian Lakes in the summer, and was wondering if anyone knows what kind of electrical hook-up is used on campsites over there (ie what plug do they use).
Any advice would be gratefully received!
Cheers [/quote]
Ciao and welcome
Forget all the 2 pin business! the international standard is now the round 3 pin camping plug, which is usually the female on the campsites box and the male on your lead.
The two pin adaptor is on in the shower blocks.

Does this mean, I can use the standard UK 3-pin hook up, or would it be safer to still get something that swaps the polarity around? I am confused...

they use two pin and 3 pins inline[as far as i know] not the uk 3 pin.
You are just as likely to come across sites with 2 pin as sites with 3 pin
[thats if the rest of europe is anything to go by]
So what i said earlier still goes [reverse polarity, continental adapter] but you may need another adapter[personally doubt it]
But have posted on caravan forum to see what comes back, will let you know.
Have you booked your crossing yet?
Yep got reply you need adapter to convert 3 pin uk socket,so get whats called a continental adapter for your mains from a caravan shop, If you then come across the 3 pin inline hook up pole, you may found the 2 pin will fit. if not you should be able to get a 2 pin to 3 pin adaptor to fit on your continental adaptor.
I am really hoping this is not confusing you.

Thanks very much for your help! We are fairly new to camping, so any advice is gratefully received.
We've booked a crossing from Hull to Zeebrugge in June, so are spending a couple of days driving down before we arrive at Lake Como.

What route are you taking? and are you up on the speed laws for towing?

Assuming you are going from england, you will need to buy a adapter for your hook up. anygood camping store should have one around a fiver.
What it is,is a two pin on one end that goes into the sites supply, and a three pin on the other end that goes into your hook up. beware the supplies on some sites is as low as 4amps.
Also you should make up a short lead 3 pin hook up with the positive and negative the wrong way round on one end.
Some sites have reverse polarity which could be dangerous,a plug checker is available around 8 notes.
