July is one of the best times to go.The weathers great and the hoards from mainland Italy are still weeks away.
If you have the time and want to see as much as possible think about a 2 or 3 centre stay. You could fly into the north via London or Birmingham to Alghero travelling down to Cagliari. You will really need a car trains/buses are slow taxis are few and far between and are not cheap.
Sardinia is really all about beaches which I think are some of the best in the world(and I've seen a few). That said many people head there for the mountain climbing/walking/cycling.So if your I idea of a great holiday is chilling out the beach swimming and trying to think where to eat that evening then Sardinia's the place.
For a hotel in the north look at Hotel Villa Las Tronashttp [url=http://www.hotelvillalastronas.it/]hotel alghero hotel alghero sardegna - VILLA LAS TRONAS
In the mountains Su Gologone is great www.sugologone.it/
In the south Hotel Simiusplaya is wonderful.www.simiusplaya.com/

Hi Mara
There is a great choice to choose from and depends which airport you want to fly from but there is easyjet from luton to cagliari, bristol olbia or ryanair stansted/liverpool alghero and birmingham olbia. Then of course if you wish to do an independent holiday or through tour operators try holiday options, just sardinia and usual thomsons etc. or if independent would be cheaper for you.
Alghero is great and ticks all boxes especially if you do not wish to hire a car, but also check on stintino and isola rosso (marinedda hotel), San Panataleo (inland but not more than 20mins from beaches) and down south Villasimius (simius ans sofitel timi ama) of Chia (meridien Laguna) or Garden Beach Cala Sinzias. Then of course there a whole range of self catering to choose from> I would check on rentsardinia and abc sardinia and autoplan for accommodation only prices.
Hope this helps and if you need further advice just ask. regards

Hi Mora
I would agree with PAS 55 regarding touring. In addition to the places mentioned the South West area below Oristano is particularly nice, including superb beaches, hills and valleys. Scivu, Picinas, Portixeddu, ******ru, Cala Domestica, Calasetta, Carloforte etc, all well worth a visit.

MuchMirto.
Only been there the once, and only to Alghero - but I found it to be a charming little town (very lively, even outwith the tourist season) ... one of the few Ryanair airports that are actually very convenient for the place they claim to fly to as well! There are a few Sardinians on the forum so they'll no doubt tell me I'm talking rubbish as usual! Anyway, I'd reccomend it for a short stay (i.e long weekend) but probably no longer unless you were happy to tour around by train or car.
