a little update to this thread - let me introduce you all to the fun sport of "babelising": to convert english text through several babel fish translations in intermediate languages, arriving back at english again ... with usually bizzare and often hilarious results. I did this manually a few times ages ago, but just came across a website that does it for you [url=http://tashian.com/multibabel]Lost in Translation[/url]
I fed it:
"when in Rome, do as the Romans do"
it replied with:
"if Rome, in well-educated fairies of novels of the tastes of a way"
Trying a bit of Shakespeare:
"To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune"
returned:
"Relative relative or nao: it is the question: If ' tis more splendid in the alcohol to suffer to the sustenation and the arrows under dishonourable wealth"
something to play with if you have too much time on your hands!

I look on professional translators' sites, and on a forum there someone had done a study on such translation websites, concluding that they were 70-80% wrong. They may help to get an idea of what something means but I wouldn't use them to write anything :no:

Its was just a joke, to illustrate the unreliability of the internet translation process when used to go from English To English, via several foreign intermediaries.
My mistake, shouldn't have put a frivolous post into this thread ... should have been in the circolo or should just not have bothered :eerr:

A couple of years ago, I booked a hotel in France based entirely on their website's machine-translated English. It was pure, unintentional poetry: [I]"Comfortable, soundproofed, air-conditioned rooms and which do not resemble themselves. Each has its color, Each one its tenderness, to express the Charm by a residence of XIIe century.[/I]" and "[I]After the emotion lived during your ballades on our odorous and secret Causse, let you allure by the Gastronomy quercynoise.[/I]" Well, both the room, which indeed did not resemble itself, and the Gastronomy quercynoise were very good indeed.

too easy (the cadence & a couple of key words make it quite obvious) .. but I'll not spoil the fun in case anyone else wants a shot ... mind you I am a massive fan of this band, and quite anal about their lyrics, which no doubt helps!
