9063 holiday in san vito chietino

Hi to all of you out there, I am looking for some advice.
We are coming over on good Friday for 2 weeks with 6 kids ages 6 to 15 and are looking for good stuff to do , places to visit. we like walking and swim in cold seas so any good walks, quiet coves or just what should we not miss. What veg are in season at the moment and any good ideas will be gratefully received. we will have a car and are bringing boots. Is it easy to find good walks. Really any advice at all would be great. Am hoping for a bit of sun. Is there anything good to see/do at Easter. Thanks a lot , I have always found suggestions from websites are far more use than guide books as the people ususllly have been there and done it already. Look forward to any suggestions :smile::bigergrin:

Theres a really nice walk at Bocca di Valle near Guardiagrele it would be about a 30 minute drive from San Vito , may still be muddy at this time of the year so you will need hiking boots , it brings you out at the waterfall, in summer people treat themselves to a nice dip after the walk but I wouldnt fancy it this time of the year.

hi
i bought a michelin italy map, which has good detail of abruzzo.if you see a tourist office over there nip in and get a copy of holidays in abruzzo check first to see if its in english!
have always been driving to places looking at houses (now bought in rosciano) and am looking forward now to doing some walking myself.
try the abruzzolutely forum and look for abruzzo walks,,we also cycled the length of pescara seafront which was good fun
explore and enjoy

Hi, hope you have a good time.
I like the wilder beaches that you'll find a little way down the coast from San Vito Chietino particularly the Riserve at Punta Aderci. This is by the point /headland sticking out just north of Vasto. You have to drive through an unpromising industrial estate and then park and walk along. It isn't hard to find and don't let the approach put you off! Lovely wild beaches (not covered in rows of umbrellas and chairs like much of the rest of the coast in the summer...), but be careful swimming there if it's rough - also it'll be pretty cold this time of year.

You could head for Roccascalegna which has an impressive ruined castle and is near Lake Bomba. Very pretty.
Or the old historic centre of Pretoro which is like stepping back in time. From there you could take the drive up to Passo Lanciano and Blockhaus right up on top of the mountain and walk there - there will probably still be snow around then so wrap warmly!
Ciao,
Marco Mando

I concur with all the above suggestions, Passso Lanciano should still have snow at Easter, there was loads last Sunday and the place was very busy.
Lanciano is a interesting city to walk around, very helpful girl in the tourist office (speaks good english).
For a cold dip san Vito Marina should suffice, otherwise Fossacesia Marina a few km south.
vasto has an old castle and museum.
A good fish restaurant in San Vito Marina, pink building on the corner by the railway arch just off the beach.

Enjoy your holiday

Thanks so much for making the effort to reply . These sound perfect suggestions. There's not much in guide books so this was exactly what I'd hoped to find out. Great

Thanks the cycling sounds good , will give that a go

Hi
We holidayed in San Vito two years ago and loved it. We have just moved to Colledimezzo about 40 mins drive from San Vito along the Val di Sangro and were down in San Vito on Saturday. It was a bit overcast but the bars on the seafront were open. You can drive to Lake Bomba in about 40 mins, its just below us. There is plenty of walking to be done and you can drive up the mountains and walk about the parks. The weather is great today - I am sitting outside the bar in our village typing this in the sun and its fab!! Hope you have a good time and look us up if you are near Lake Bomba.

The young must be prepared to eat fish....I suggest you make a point of asking for cooked fish rather than raw, (raw is a speciality here). To begin with the interior is unique and exceptionally beautiful. You climb upstairs and hanging down from the high ceilings are fine wires with items attached that have been gathered from the beach by a famous, locally born artist. Magical mobiles and the young would enjoy them I think. It is supposedly the TOP restaurant there. Ristorante L'Angolino da Filippo, Marina di San Vito Chietino Tel 0872 61632 Closed Mon. Of course the area has a famous poet D'Annunzio he called it the city of broom (ginestre). You will of course spot the complex wooden fishing contraptions called, "trabocchi" at San Vito Marina, some of which are still used (and protected) for fishing for mullets and seabass in winter and sardines in summer.

sounds fascinating and very different. The kids are very good at giving anything a go, I am usually vegetarian but if that causes problems have been known to eat fish! It has been great trying this notice board I have now got lots of suggestions and can't wait to try them all . Thanks so much for making the effort. I really appreciate it.

Thanks, Lake Bomba keeps coming up so will definitely have a look . Am just packing now everything from thermals and gloves for the mountains to swimsuits for what I presume to be a pretty chilly sea. Is it over 14 degrees there in the water?
