We had a dog in church on Palm Sunday. Apart from a little run around and a sniff during the Communion, he was better behaved than many of the children present!

General chat about Italy

nice story... it is quite strange here in Italy the differences in attitudes to animals or pets... i think we have found that people in rural villages have the most fear of catching something or having them in the house... city people seem to be a bit ahead in that sense...
although the place we live now has more dogs than humans and they are all well looked after... and it is rural...
one of the pleasant things about the main post office in teramo centre...not advertised in their services is the fact that in bad weather many of the city dogs take advantage of the automatic doors and well heated interior to take a break from the rain or snow... no one seems to mind...they sleep quitely in the corners...
anyway i am glad to see some common sense being shown... by at least one area... good news indeed...thank you

Our little dog comes to Mass with us, but we "ask" her to wait for us in the "atrium", something she does very well. We have been told to get her inside the church by some parishioners, but we have declined as we were more worried about little children in the church creating a disturbance because of her presence. On occasions, when visiting other churches, we have been told by the priest to get her inside. One of them put it very nicely: "After all, she is also God's little creature". Inspired by St Francis, I guess...
At the local bar, typically Italian, our "Tequila" gets a warm welcome from owners and clients alike. My problem is usually to stop feeding her all sorts of goodies.... She also goes to restaurants, without any problems. We always ask first.

Great news, I can not wait to sit on the beach and make sandcastles from dog poo.

Civilized dog owners always clean after their dogs. Uncivilized people, wheather they are dog owners or not, leave tons of litter on beaches, parks or roads for others to clean. It is a question of learning to do the right thing from the time you are a child.

Most beaches in Italy don't allow dogs on them in the summer months, so you will be able to build sandcastles!!!
Cats aren't stopped though so you could find something a few inches below the surface.
