9194 Is It Because They Are Italian???

I have just been switched over to Tiscali Broadband from Onetel here in London. It seemed a good idea a couple of weeks ago, free phone line rental, free national and international calls at the weekend, unlimited Broadband, up to 8MBs (my area can do 6MBs) and only £14.99 a month.

Well the Broadband is working and I've done online speed tests. I'm getting a paltry around 2.2MBs download, their free wireless router hasn't arrived and what really is annoying me is that the actual 'phone is now dead!!! They had said it would take around half an hour for the switch ..... nope hours and hours. It seems another case of Domani Syndrome!!! lol

Rang BT and there is a fault on the line probably caused by the switch over. Unlikely to be sorted until Wednesday.

It will take your line a few weeks to settle down, regarding ADSL max (up to 8mb) speeds, as they do various tests on it. So give it a month (from your start date) before you do another test and it should of settled down by then.

If you do need to change again, O2 seem to be getting good reviews recently, if you can get it Samknows Broadband - Availability checker (very useful site for UK residents, if anyone knows of an Italian equivalent, let me know)

How come you didn't take the bundled TV service? It's great and miles cheaper than Sky. I've got the whole bundle which is £19.99 for broadband, TV and unlimited UK and international calls (including North America and Italy). I saved about £250 p.a. I had a slight problem when I first got the service and they had to regulate my line and swap out the set top box so there was a blip at first but I've been really happy since then.

Oops! Just double checked and that £19.99 is a discount for the first couple of months, but full price (without extras) is £25 thereafter.

Quite simply Licciana I don't need it at the moment. My TV is at least 25 years old. When analogue is redundant soon then I might upgrade.

The telephone is now active and I received an e-mail from Tiscali today saying my service was active. They also said that I would be receiving my free wireless router. I don't need it but if I did surely it should have been sent out earlier!!!

But once you have digital tv you'll be amazed at how useful it is. I can't imagine how I lived before PVRs.
They also said that I would be receiving my free wireless router. I don't need it but if I did surely it should have been sent out earlier!!!
Agreed. We found that the engineer should have put a different splitter or dongle or something on the line but I erroneously thought I had one so he didn't. Turned out I was wrong but still it should have been his job to check it rather than take my word for it. Happy with it all now, though.

I use the so called 'dreaded' TalkTalk service - and have had no problems whatsoever since I switched to it over a year ago.

Total cost [for land line, broadband (8Mb), free calls to UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Oz and NZ landlines] is £21 a month.

.

I did consider Talk Talk *Onetel are of course now part of them), even O2 but since I tend to; buy Italian wherever/whenever I can, I opted for Tiscali.

After almost a month with Tiscali, BT still haven't received a request from Tiscali to transfer the line rental to them so I am paying twice for line rental at the moment.. I have e-mailed Tiscali a few times and not even an acknowledgement. I also have rung Customer Services on a premium rate number who keep passing the buck back to BT.

Good to know that their headquarters are in central London .....

And now I came across this article on The Times website saying Talk Talk are maybe making a bid for Tiscali UK - Carphone Warehouse may bid for Tiscali UK arm - Times Online
