9242 My Reputation is "Base"

The new green blocks at the bottom of the screen indicate that I have a "base reputation level" - have the powers that be on the Italy ethernettywebthingyforum been speaking to some of my old friends, or is there some other method for arriving at this conclusion?

What green blocks and accompanying words??? I don't see them and feel somewhat deprived.

Sally - go to your response to my entry and on the right hand side you will see you have 4 green blobs. Hold your mouse over them and it says "you are on a distinguished road" - presumably you live on the A46 Exeter to Honiton, new dual carriageway section!!!!! Hold you mouse over my meagre single green blob and it reveals to the world that my reputation is base.

Please let me know I'm not seeing something that's not there (bit worried I can't spell hallucinating).

Chris It doesn't work unfortunately on yours or mine but I am an Apple Mac user. However I will give you a grazie for bringing it to my attention and when more people do the same lo and behold you too will be a distinguished whatever you quoted eventually. Here goes.

Hi Ghiandi,

when someone reads a post which they feel is important/useful, they click on the grazie button, which gives you a reputation. The more reputations you are given, the more green blocks you will get.
Hope this info. helps.

Francesca

Francesca, does it say you are on a distinguished road if you have four blocks???

Same for you Gala ........... and you have 5 blocks!!!!!!!!
As for me with my 2 blocks. Must be a long road

Clicking the grazie button will only thank a post, in order to give 'reputation' you have to click on the scales next to the report triangle.

But if you look at the poll
(http://www.italymag.co.uk/forums/italy-magazine-forums-announcements-queries/9082-new-forum-options.html)
you will see that reputation is the least favoured new options and I think it reflects the quantity of posts rather than the overall quality, not of course wishing to ‘dis’ anyone who is busy collecting little green blocks.

If you look at the FAQ there is an option for negative reputation too but in IMF's case it has not been activated.

"Small things make base men proud." King Henry the Sixth, Part II

I believe that the reputation blocks are given by:
1) People clicking on your scales
2) A certain number of "grazie" (I do not know how many earn you an extra block)

Then, what happens when you get 7 or more blocks? Are you sent to the Pantheon, or the Circus Maximus to be eaten by the lions? Fame is a dangerous road.

If its any consolation, I'm a member these many good years and a Moderator to boot and I too am base.

Marc - thanks for easing my misery - I feel in distinguished (albeit base) company. But oh, how that "distinguished road" calls to me. One day, maybe one day.
I'm only a little Ghianda, but one day maybe a mighty Quercia will rise!

Given you another grazie to help you on your way!!!

I think your thread needs five stars so here you are.

Just hoping that if your thread is given five stars that that might boost your rating!!! Run your mouse over the green blocks again and see if you have made any progress.

I'm not participating in the forum to gain trinkets.......so why bother who 'scores' what?

(you may have noticed!)

Me neither. You may be confusing idle forum banter with a genuine interest in something which as you say is pretty pointless

I agree with David, those reputation marks could detract from the real reason for participating in the Forum, which is to contribute with something. I said before that I was not going to use the reputation scales and I have not done it; however, I still like the "grazie" button as it allows us to thank somebody whose post is helpful to us or to other people without needing to write a full message.
