9268 campli sunday market

unusually here in Italy...well anyway Abruzzo is this general market that runs every Sunday morning... cannot say it is anything special as regards product sold... much the same as many others although there is an interesting stall where a man from Guilainova brings lots of copper type things...some new ...some old... there was a still for grappa there the other day....

anyway what aids and makes it more interesting is the fact that all the shops are open too... and indeed the museum... what is also special i guess is the fact that Campli is a very pleasant small town with a lot of history behind it and that there are plenty of places to look in and nose around as well as the market stalls...

its a very social morning...church services going on...tourist office open and the famous porchetta from campli available in one of the old shops in front of the comune building... not just Sundays i should add...in fact Campli is renowned for its porchetta and was one of the few Abruzzo food presences at the vinitaly show... with its traditional and secret recipe...

there is another good restaurant there called the tunnel ... which is very fairly priced...

anyway its a fun time wandering the small streets and joining in the life here...on a sunny day its all very jovial... there is also an excellent cake shop just after the main parking place where there are very good pastries and home made pasta... if you feel like taking something home for lunch... in fact its a Sunday tradition here to make a visit to one of these types of shops... by lunchtime most of the fresh stuff has gone ...in Teramo its most probably one of the busiest days for this type of shop...in fact the only time the ticket machine is used in our local Teramo bakers...

anyway Campli worth a visit for the atmosphere alone... and if you feel like it you can always work your way up the sacred steps on your knees... however that's one joy i have always managed to miss so cannot say if it benefits you or not

It sounds a fantastic day out John. Where's the town exactly. Presumably only accessible by car???

Here's a lovely photo of Campli that I found on Google. Very pretty indeed too.

As the crow flies, Campli is about 6 km due north of Teramo.

As the SS81 and SP262 wend, it's about 10 km from Teramo.
