9301 discounts on taxes

Hi everyone

I'm sure most of you will already know about the following information but it's been a recent opportunity for me to learn some ways of saving money and I wanted to pass them on to all newbies and those unaware.

there is some discussion on the forum regarding ICI tax and comune debts, but there are discounts out there too.

Basically after you have puchased your Italian property you will be hit on a yearly basis for two taxes from the comune. I'm not sure how things vary from one to another but for my own the refuse tax comes in January and ICI twice a year in June and December.

I recently installed compost areas in some of my clients gardens which qualifies them for 10% discount on ICI. You can also get discounts for use of solar power and there is at least one comune who have abolished ICI for those using photovoltaic panels.

A small saving of around 15% can be made on the refuse bill if you can prove you are only there for holidays in the year (one man's holiday is another man's sabbatical - I say), and a very significant saving (even as much as 70%!) if your bin is 300m or more from your property.

Just a tiny bit of good news but I hope some might make good use of it.

Hi
Can concur with the discount on the refuse tax. We pay less than 100 euro per year for a fairly large house (480sq.m) because we live 2 1/2 km. from the nearest bin.
I understand the rate is worked out by factoring the size of the house and the distance from the nearest bin.

Hi Aretina

Don't know if your there all the time but if not, don't forget to claim the extra discount for limited usage - should bring it down even further.

Many thanks Marche Pools

We are here all the time so cannot get that discount. We also dont pay tax on that part of the property which is not used for habitation! A very italian clause!! Thank you for the tip about the 'compost' discount we will certainly giving that info. to our commercialista.
