the link above shows again to my mind the lack of concerted effort to promote abruzzo ..... the link below gives access to the 2008 calendar so reduces the list of events significantley
Elenco Eventi ricercati: Abruzzo TE mesi_2008 su eventiesagre.it
anyone can put in their comune here in TEramo from the drop down list ... ...
now say if alan wanted to look at his local events in the comune of casteli which i know for sure has a mass of things going on throughout the year he would use this
Elenco Eventi ricercati: Abruzzo TE Castelli mesi_2008 su eventiesagre.it
and find he lived in a really non eventful place
i would enter this and find that my comune... famed as are most here for its sagres and festivals does even worse
Elenco Eventi ricercati: Abruzzo TE Torricella Sicura mesi_2008 su eventiesagre.it
now that's fine for me and allan ... we can talk to the natives... but it makes it difficult for people planning their visits...
actually Cellino does the best because it actualley lists one event that isnt xmas related... but there again I know there are plenty of things going on there throughout the summer well in past years anyway...
to my mind what is worse is that these fares...events... whatever you like to call them have two purposes... one they promote the comune or town or village and the people in them are proud to show to strangers and visitors what is part of their historic tradition ,,,, and it generates money for the comune...often used for good causes...
so why isn't that site that nielo suggest up to date... its an excellent idea to have these events in one place... it benefits visitors to be able to research whats on when they come here and it benefits the local economy from the food producers and the bands that entertain... to the wine and oil producers because its all local produce that's sold in general... and the small local craft shops that stay open late on the days of the fares...
to me its a waste that a facility open and free to use is not made better use of by either the provincial tourist board or the comunes and their pro locos who should be getting the news out to the world of why their event is worth a visit....
i dont know if its to do with the fact that by traditon everything is planned around the traditional italian vacation periods...so suddenley news will fly out just before August...
maybe we should all pop down our local town hall and get the man in charge to do something about it...

I agree totally with you John. I looked for events for my town in May and a really big one - Madonna Della Libera isn't mentioned - shame.
I see that site covers the whole of Italy so wonder how other regions fare for information.

not giving up...on the search i came up with this site and it does have a list soemwhat limited of things happening in the teramo province...
its in a list form and not interactive
Pro Loco Abruzzo - Il portale delle pro loco abruzzesi - Prolocoabruzzo.it
this next link is to the same site but allows you to click on various of the pro locos....
Pro Loco Abruzzo - Il portale delle pro loco abruzzesi - Prolocoabruzzo.it
and get somewhat more info but still fairly sparse for some of the different areas
sally heres a link to the province of L'aquila pro loco.... seems they are even more lax than the teramo ones
UNPLI_AQ - Il Portale delle Pro-Loco della provincia di L'Aquila ... click on eventi and its all for last year
if you click on associates you get a list of all the different people that are pro locos and you can write to your one and complain ...or call in on them the next time you are here. constructive crticism or advise i am sure will be welcomed by these well paid people of the comunes....

...For which I am very grateful, given my low tolerance of earth-shaking fireworks displays and eardrum-destroying discos that go on until 4 am. Two weeks of that sort of thing in August is just about enough local colour, thank you very much! :laughs:
As for why events are not more widely promoted, isn't this largely down to the belief that everyone who "needs" to know about the events (i.e. local folk and their extended families) will either hear about it via word or mouth or see one of the posters put up around the place?

Thank you John. Three main events are listed I see but not the fourth, Festa Del Cocomero, in July. Wonderful celebration of the watermelon, feasting and line dancing to boot. Better still, only the natives!!!
Found It

This is a link to a good website for events in Abruzzo - Benvenuti in Abruzzo: tutte le feste e sagre in Abruzzo

I see you can add an event not listed!!!
Additionally the events database isn't functioning as it has done previously. ie If I want events for Pescara in May for example, it doesn't work.
Perhaps John, Allan and Nielo could e-mail the website in you very best Italian to ask them to look into this. There is an e-mail link at the bottom of the page - Abruzzo.com: Regala i Prodotti Tipici d' Abruzzo

Okay then. Maybe someone else will.

Thats a good idea. You could send them an email Sally, advising that the site is not functioning.

glad to see that we are in competition here..... i have the advantage i guess cause i seem to spend half my life working on a computer and the other half travelling around looking at houses... the other half in bars and restuarnts ...is that too many halves... oh well
i too find it frustrating that there are a wealth of sites on abruzzo that seem to never get updated...even when you go into a tourist office the brochures on fares, festivals and sagres seem to be out of date.... its fine that all the locals know that this or that is going to happen on that weekend in June but really it seems that most sites are set up to get the grants attached and then just go to sleep.... its sad and frustrating because these funds could be better used...
i do agree on one major point you make....tripe... to my mind best avoided....
