9340 T.V or not T.V, that is the question?

Hi all,
Sorry if this is a very boring question for all you old timers but...
My son has brought me a B sky B 2200 digibox and card over. He says that I will be able to pick up some free broadcasts from the U.K via Sky. What kind of Satellite dish & other bits and pieces will I need to pick it up from here in Abruzzo?
I have a very good, and very knowledgable, friend who I think is a bit bored of my endless questioning about it all, and being a bit slow on the up take I'm asking you lot. Can anyone help. I do miss Radio 4, and some T.V in English would be nice. When we have the time of course to watch with all the rotavating, composting, weeding & planting etc that we are doing at mo.
Thanks & good to be back.

HI Sprat
if you have broadband, why not listen to radio 4 on the computer, and you can also download UK tv shows as well ...............good luck

Hi Sprat,

The free-to-air services, such as Sky News, BBC World, CNN etc. can be picked-up on the Astra satellites with a normal 80cm dish. If you have a contract with Sky using a UK address, you can also get most of their subscription services; movies sport etc. You need a much bigger dish (1.2-1.8 metres) to get the BBC Channels and Channel 4.

Radio 4 is broadcast from Astra 2A South beam on transponder 13, 11.954 Ghz Horizontal polarisation. SID6754 and can be received free to air in Abruzzo with a free to air receiver and a 70cm dish.

We tried it yesterday and it worked.

I watch TV on the internet. This week the other half has had the flu so its been a marathon of films......4 in a week and some have not even arrived in Italian Cinemas. We also watch a wide range of television series and documentaries.

For the news.....I read it.

To watch TV eg channel four on the net you will need to sign on with a proxy server so that your Italian ISP is hidden. This has been covered by other forum experts, which see.
