Hi We had the same problem no beans for english breakfast but went to our local Lidl (Teramo) yes they now stock baked beans and they are as good as the ones you get in the UK so if you have a Lidl near you give them a try.
Every now and then I want the tastes of the UK. I want a good English breakfast and its not the same without baked beans IMHO.
But I wonder, can you carry tins in your luggage. I know you can't carry such things in your hand luggage anymore, but what about the luggage you have chceked in.
Anybody have any advice?
We buy excellent bacon here which comes from Alto Adige,it's only the "back" quality (streaky?) unlike almost all bacon in the uk (unless you go to fortnum's,Harrods or some obscure butcher who still "does it")which is chemically treated and no longer smoked and rindless, this is very like Sainsbury's bacon when it was still an emporium/shop (not a supermarket)smoked and with rind.I have experimented with home grown borlotti beans and our own bottled tomato pulp and the result (again sugar and chemical free) is infinitely superior to branded tins of baked beans.we have fresh eggs here and anyway we make our own sausages so find we can have an english breakfast etc as it was years ago....

Well all the Lidl's in the Valtellina and around Lake Como sell them too. I think they're 'HP' Baked Beans - not quite Heinz - but hey 'any port in a storm'. Actually they're quite tasty...:

There were baked beans in the small Conad in Aulla last time I looked so I reckon they must have them in all Conads. Look in the tiny "foreign foods" section :winki:

So Sad to think that we move to Italy and crave such foods as baked beans! You can make your own with Canelli beans and the fabulous sugo you made in the summer, lots of black pepper and crusty bread. You''ll be telling me next you miss the English weather....

Ok we can all make stuff, but just that once in a while maybe when you feel low or have a bad cold or something, that treat you bought in the "ethnic" aisle at Oasis a while ago hits that comfort zone?

You can also find them at Carrefour. Not cheap though....

Yes..I'm only pulling your leg..I love Marmite and I haven't yet found it anywhere here. My other can't do without is Earl Grey tea, and it must be Twinnings in the black box which they do not do here.

Twinings offer Earl Grey in a yellow box. Not quite the same as the black box variety though.

I totally agree. Even Twinnings black box has changed and they seem to be using an Indian tea and I'm sure it was China tea....Wow, what have I become..Chatting about tea!

The truth is often sad!
I am quite fussy about my english breakfast and whilst your home made Canelli tomato beans would be delicious with something else, they would not be acceptable next to my sunnyside up, crispy on the bottom fried eggs! The texture would be wrong, the juiciness would be wrong (heaven forbid that your beans make my toast soggy!). It would just all be wrong!! It would be like those mushrooms that they serve in many uk hotels as part of breakfast and that do not resemble fried mushrooms in any shape or form let alone taste like them! It would be like using mushrooms other than button mushrooms in your breakfast - yes they taste nicer, but they don't belong on this plate!
I don't miss baked beans - I have 7 tins in my cupboard!
Lidl for own brand but nice or Oasi for heavenly Heinz.

Two of our local supermarkets Le Clerc and Centrospesa both sell Twinings loose Leaf Earl Grey in Black Tins!
You can carry tins in your luggage; however, bear in mind the weight... I would consider caviar, but not baked beans, or they may become as expensive as caviar if you have to pay excess baggage. Anyway, if you are desperate....
On the other hand, in your case I would check in Italy for shops selling English products.Probably difficult in Sarzana, but the large Esselungas in Lucca (San Concordio and Ponte a Moriano) or even the CONAD supermarket at Bagni di Lucca have a small range of British products. Good luck!
