There are gardens in Umbria that are open to the public occasionally but they tend to be rather grand, high maintenance affairs. To lift the spirits I sometimes go on a Wed. afternoon, to La Foce in Tuscany but cannot possibly replicate most what I see there.
What you can do depends on how high up you are and the slope of the woodland...does it encourage porcupines and deer to enter your garden? If you send me a private message I will forward details of our personal website showing pictures of what we have done at 627 mts. near Lago Trasimeno, despite drought, caterpillars stripping all the deciduous trees, and every kind of beastie having a go!! I suffer with my back and so once established most of what I have planted is easy maintenance. Note our English neighbours down below can grow things that I cannot, so viewing "gardens in Umbria" may not be the perfect solution to your gardening needs and wants.
Hi I wonder if anyone knows of any gardens in Umbria (or close) open to the Public and worth visiting. I am trying to get some ideas of what is (or isn't) possible. Our garden includes a wood. At the moment everything has gone wild and is in need of a little taming. I essentially do not want to create to much work and am away of the water constraints.

This thread might prove helpful if you stray a little from Umbria:
