I had always understood that to be eligible for residency you had to spend the majority of your time at the Italian address, ie actually be living there, and to regard the house as your main residence. I would have thought the Italian authorities expect you to be there for an absolute mininum of 6 months in any one year. Someone else may be able to give more precise info but I very much doubt you would qualify and suspect your boyfriend would only do so if he spent at least 6 months there in any year.

Go and apply again, preferably at the beginning of a visit lasting a week or two. They should visit you within 10 days. If you are out when they visit, and they leave a note, then take the note to the vigili urbani and explain. It might help if you could ask a neighbour to keep an eye out, or to take your mail in and advise you if they leave a note.

Hi allI,I will try and keep it simple we applied within time ,we were not in when they checked ,they sent al letter saying visit office within 10 days we were in uk due to various reasoni know what were we thinking .We were then told maybe better if we have a legal letter explaining situation we did this and that was four months ago.I am a teacher in the uk and my boyfriend is retired (because he can be).We have a very nice appartment in lucca centro storico that we love if only we could sort this out.we have now been advised to go once again and ask for residency .we are in may wish us luck we will need it. thanks for listening
I have difficulty understanding how you can be a teacher in Britain and live in Italy.

Thanks Mark.
Simple question: do you actually live in Italy or is your home in the UK?
