9409 A Very Special Evening

Celebrating The 150th Anniversary Of Puccini's Birthday

I'm just in from having attended a lovely event at the Italian Institute in London tonight. It was to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Puccini's birth. It was advertised as just a Puccini evening, so I expected probably just a talk on the life and times of this wonderful composer. No. It was a recital of arias given by a soprano, tenor, and a baritone from the Puccini Festival at Torre De Lago.

If that wasn't enough, a special Puccini apperitivo afterwards, prosecco based with a deep red flower floating on top sprinkled with pine nuts. Loads of hams and salamis and various cheeses too. A couple of pasta dishes accompanied by red, rose, white wines and chocolates and cantucci after.

There were even goodie bags to take away containing full size bottles of extra virgin oil and balsamic vinegar and two jars of different verities of pesto

Apparently all food and drink was flown in directly especially for the event from Tuscany, and the event sponsored by The Italian Chamber Of Commerce.

There ere are many similar events and many dedicated in turn to a specific region of Italy. I'm certainly up for more of this!!!

sounds like a lovely evening indeed (not convinced about the del boy prosecco drink though).

Yes I think too maybe the pine nuts were a little excessive but then Italians can be vulgar!!! lol Tasted fine though.

if so, its next event will be swarming with ITmag liggers after the goody bags!!

How vulgar would that be? :twitcy:

Sounds like you had a lovely time Sally, I wonder what it is with the pine nuts though, I had a pizza the other night in our local place in the village, smoked salmon with rocket, interesting!,and actually very nice, but why the pine nuts scattered on top?, a strange addition.

Decoration I suppose. Here's the link to the Festival At Torre Del Lago - FONDAZIONE FESTIVAL PUCCINIANO
