ciao pas 55 they are robbing you Travelex United Kingdom - Travel Money Online - Foreign Exchange 1.2362 ciao marco

Just been in Thomas Cook. Rate 1.16. I complained and suggested 1.21. She fed the rate of 1.21 into the computer and said "OK".
I had not realised it was possible to negotiate rates in such places!

That would be the "no fee" exchange rate then. The real one just now is 1.2738

I got offered 1.265 this morning, no fee .

As of 1 May Marks and Spencer are operating an exchange service to their store card holders. Up to 55 days free credit, free delivery over 500 sterling, as for the rate.. you'll have to ask!
Must say I was shocked to see the rate offered by the local post office.

Thats really strange, the FX offices in M&S are the same guys that offered me the rate, they also happen to be a client of ours, and the rates are good.....heres a link to there website, but if you need a good contact pm me............

Think we all need your bank!!! That is way above the interbank rate at the moment.

Now we know how how they pay for the celebs in their TV advertising campaigns, but I suppose with Keith Harris and Orville the duck in their latest one they will be offering better rates soon !!!!! :laughs:

This sounds implausable so some details please. How much did you change? Had you booked it well in advance? Which bank!!

We are of course all doubters until you prove it!! (I'm green with envy).
For those of us in the real world, transferring day to day money to live on here in Italy, HIFX have proved good for past 2 years. No charges, fair rate and once registered all easy peasy to do the transfer UK to Italian bank. You can ask for an automatic daily email to keep an eye on the rate.

I get my money through the hole in the wall via Nationwide. A couple of years ago I needed 4000 for a car so did an internet transfer to my bancoposta account. By the time it showed in my account it would have been quicker to get out 250 a day via my cash card!

We are similarly happy with HIFX but have probably come to the end of needing to transfer large sums. (I think I'm right that HIFX will only exchange a minimum of £5k.)

For smaller amounts we have always used the Travelex internet scheme which gives the most competitive rates and no commission charges. You just order the amount you want (up to a maximum of something like £1250 if I remember correctly) and then pick up your Euros at the airport before flying to Italy. Unfortunately, we always fly from Stansted and Travelex have just closed their Stansted outlet so unless we can fly from Heathrow or Gatwick we need to find another source of cheap euros. Any suggestions?

This is a marketplace that is constantly changing. I'd check HIFX especially as you are an existing cutomer. (Do you not spend £5,000 in a year?) We searched other dealers and some had "hidden charges" so be careful. Someone on this Forum praised Currency Exchange - Foreign Exchange - Currency Transfers - Money Transfer As always it takes aggro to register but then transactions are easy.

I still want to know who gave 1.35??????

HIFX will do < £5K if you ask, but the rate may be marginally less attractive.
XEtrade - Overview are good for smaller transactions - they are fully automated and have no minimum - so, while their rate may be say half a cent worse than HIFX on a a big trade, you can still get high stret busting rates for a £500/£1000 etc transfer. Lowest I've personally sent is £750 (to USA) but as Isay it's fully automated and any minimum programmed in must be quite low.

I have transfered through World First where there are no charges at all if you change £10,000, they are very efficient and it took 2 days from my original instruction to arrive in my Italian bank account. 1.35 euro to £1 was the buy not sell rate last week. The buy rate hasn't been above 1.25 for 2 months, i monitor xchange rate on a daily basis (sad eh?)

if you get the IBAN number of your bank here, it gets there sameday, if sent before noon.
