9488 La Meglio Gioventu

BBC 4 has been showing this film and I have just watched the 4th and final episode. It is said to be Italy's answer to Edgar Reitz's Heimat. It is a family saga set against a backdrop of Italy's recent history. Maybe it's a little sentimental but it certainly shows the importance and strength of Italian family life. I enjoyed it very much. Have others seen it and what did you think?

I loved it! you can see it from Rai Click (kind of RAI on demand), but it is in italian without subtitles... Last night we watched Viva Zapatero, by Sabrina Guzzanti. It's not a very new movie, about 4 years old I guess, but well worth watching . My husband (Scottish) enjoyed it very much as well. I recommend it!

I saw the fourth part of La Meglio Gioventu last night too, and liked it a lot, although the gooey "happy ending" was a bit much. If they show it again, I'll be sure to catch the rest of it. I was completely hopless at catching very much of the Italian dialogue. Can I blame Roman accents?

I'd like to see Sabina Guzzanti's film too. I remember there was a British documentary about her, and how her satirical programme on RAI3 was pulled part way through the run. RAI3 was supposed to be the last public channel free from Berlusconi's editorial control, but it only took one phone call to remind the Board how useful it was to have a government pension.

the movie is the documentary you are referring to!
