9477 Viterbo festa di fiore

1st - 4th May, Viterbo has been seriously invaded by flowers - the whole of the Quartiere San pellegrino is choc-a-bloc with all kinds of cactii, flowers, carniverous plants, and citrus trees. This kind of stuff I can normally take or leave, but the sheer volume & variery of flora is immense and they've actually carpered many streets in earth & turf ... quite wonderful. The cactii in particular are great - huge variety, many that I've never seen before, and almost uniquely, ALL in flower!!

Highly reccomended (and another top tip is to seek out the brasilian bar ... ir rustles up a mean caipirihno!)

We were actually very disappointed with the San Pellegrino festa di fiore this year. Not a patch on previous years in terms of colour or artistic displays but still worth a visit!

wow, must have been great previously - I had nothing to compare it to but for a first time visit it really bowled me over (we just went on spec, hadn't even realised there was a festival on, so that maybe coloured my judgement?). Anyway, I'll look forward to revisiting in future. Loved the city too, by the way, can't believe it took me 4 years to take the 20 minute trip from our place ...
