There must be more then one dialect in the region. Down south here it's a fiar big different then across the line in Molise. If that small distance leads to such a big change I bet the move up north is no less big.
The most interesting language particularity I have come accross is an "isola linguistica" at Colognora in the lucchese mountains between Collodi (Pinocchio's land) and Boveglio. They speak a language which comes from Longobard, although it is slowly disappearing; only elderly people speak it nowadays. Anyway, this particularity is marked by a road sign next to the entrance of the small town.
