9554 Crude jokes

I'd be interested to hear everyone's feelings on what's too crude for this site; I've deleted a couple of jokes recently, so has Marc.....but some are close to the knuckle & I wanted to get others' opinion on what was "nice".

The rule I'd used was whether I'd feel happy to tell the joke in the office.....but is there a more simple rule? No sex, no politics etc....?

I had considered setting up a separate "Friday" thread where it would be flagged that "this could offend" but then quickly realised it was likely to act as a magnet for the obscene & a competition on who could post the most crude joke.....

Hi David; I'm probably the wrong guy to ask, because I don't find these jokes offensive. I'd be worried though if rude jokes ever started to become so prevalent that they became the 'norm' and deterred people from posting anything too tame. The 'office' rule is pretty good. Another good yardstick that I use is 'would I be happy for my mother to read this joke?'... but then there are different mothers.

So far I've only ever jokes in response to protests by members and I felt that it was better to steer on the side of safety, since jokes are not the main purpose of the forums.

I don't find the jokes offensive either but I think the yardstick should be "does this joke reflect badly on Italy magazine and could it offend any potential readers?" (think of the elderly, religious, conservative etc). I repeat they don't bother me at all and some I chuckle at but I don't think this is the place really.
