9257 Find The People You Need!

Hello Everyone,
Do you live or are you having your house restored around Amandola, Sarnano and Communza? Are you having problems finding the right people for the job?
It seems to me that many people on the forum have similar queries about where to find blacksmiths, carpenters, stonemasons, builders etc. I have been living in the area for the last four years and know most of the decent craftsmen.
These are all the local craftsmen who havn't signed up to Geometra's or Architects and raised their prices for the foreigners. Most of them have been doing the same job for all their lives well before we arrived.
So if your in need of a local craftsmen PM me and I will give you their number to call and you arrange with them what you need. This isn't a con nor is it an advertisement. I receive no monies for this. I just think it's about time the local craftsmen in this area benefited from us foreigners and not certain others that we all know about.

I also have a couple of guys who do groundworks. They will also clear fields, harrow & roll flat etc. Rate is the same for English as well as Italians They do only speak Italian though!!
They will also fit septic tanks, etc and certify that they comply to regulations, basically anything required outside the house.

Hi
Just got me thinking when i read these kind offers of help and advice. While I realise we have to be careful not to name names on the forum, wouldn-t it be really helpful to compile a rough guide to prices. Between us maybe we could come up with ball park figures of the kind of costs basic work comes in at, which would help anyone embarking on new projects to be better informed and less likely to be ripped off. It might be a really good tool with which educate those local tradesmen who are keen to take advantage of our lack of experience and ultimately could help stamp out over pricing for stranieri. After all the reason we are often accepting inflated prices is just because we have no bench marks.

I would be more than happy to collate the info so please PM me with as many of your experiences as possible (just within Marche for now, please). I'm talking about the things that we all need regardless of our situation like, plumbing electrics, windows, plastering etc. If the prices are broken down all the better as folk can then re-calculate them based on their own requirements. Obviously it might avoid pitfalls if we dont put names to the prices that way it keeps it unbiased.

Hope as many of you come on board as possible as to get an accurate picture we need as much information as possible. As soon as it is all put together I will post it on the site and perhaps others might do the same for their regions in which case we can see how things vary throughout the country.

Good luck with the lists!

Good Idea MP&G.
Rates on their way to you.

Has anyone prepared a list with prices, if so would they be willing to post this information on the public domain or send it to me via email?

Thanks,
T

i would love to tell you I have a list to send you, but i only ever received one reply to my request for information, so it wouldn't be much of a list! It's a shame because i think it would be a great idea and really useful particularly to newbie's.
If you want to post the jobs you are looking at doing, or send me a private message if you prefer, I will try and give you some ballpark estimates based on our own experience.

Kind regards
Michael

I'm glad someone else was as confused as I was - was it something I said????

The message you're referring-to has been deleted. Please feel free to carry on the thread as it was before!

Hello Again,
I would just like to add that the reason I added this thread was because I was hoping to help the local craftsmen around the area where I live. These craftsmen many who are close to retirement will not be passing on their skills mainly in part to the current Italian youth attitude to work.
I hoped both sides would benefit from it, but unfortunately again as seems evident there are those who post on this site just to benefit themselves.
I am not advertising services nor am I looking to hand others the information to others so that they can earn money from it.
From the replies I got not one was a serious enquiry I will not name names, but I don't appreciate I friend of mine who is 62yrs old and has 40yrs of experience as a carpenter to sit waiting for an hour upon the request of some English woman who failed to turn up.
My point was to help some of the local craftsmen. Evidently many foreigners would rather paid another to do the work. Rather like what happened in England some 20yrs ago. I find it personally quite saddening to think that their skills are not appreciated. Furthermore it shouldn't be expected that because there are local craftsmen their work should cost nothing. After all the point is that its a craft!!!!!

Is anyone else fed up with this kind of thing?

Ahh , the trammel of semantics :winki:

I am sorry you didnt have any serious replies when you were trying to promote local craftsmen, do you think it might help to be more specific about the crafts in question?.

It was a very good post IC and I am also sorry that you had a lot of time wasting enquiries. I myself will be looking to have some work doing, hopefully a little later this year and will be looking for the right people who understand old houses. Not like the young electrician we had who only knew how to use a Kango drill to chisel out the wall!!!!
