9614 As someone once sang " I did it my way"

This should give those that have done it a laugh and those thinking of doing it a few things to think about.
Hopefully next week we hand in DIA to commence works on house.
We have been here almost two years, I have started and stopped a little failed business, bought a wreck of a house in village centre to restore 8 months ago, I turned 40 just recently, our first child due in 3 months, still in rented flat, trying to study for final three chartered accountancy exams in one month, wife has job here so attempting to apply for various tax incentives for house restoration and all the paperwork and lack of information that this involves. Village centre so extra things that we never even thought about turn into expensive problems ( e.g. large garage door must open only inwards and be real wood and ideally electric, euro 1000 budget turns into euro 5000.no room for crane or lift and it is a 4 storey house that needs a new roof.) Being nice to neighbours as need to put scaffolding over / on their roof. Costs of internal doors unbelievable, plumbers are the vaguest people i have ever met, price of internal plastering is huge ( stupid to buy a 500 m2 house inc garages though how they work out it is that big is beyond me) Grand designs of putting 7 shower rooms in, all very small, was an insanely expensive idea when originally there was 2 small bathrooms, whole new roof and some wall insulation is not cheap, price of re tubing chimmney is far more than I guessed, don't buy a house with 29 windows that need replacing. i can still only look at the final projected costs with a bottle of wine inside, otherwise only allow myself to look at the individual items on a daily basis. Comune wants extra decoration on the outside and with 29 windows !!. Security project as in village centre is a must and more than i thought, termo tenico project required as caldia over 35 KW is a waste of money, still not sure if 6kw elec supply needs separate project or not.
solar panels, government says must, comune prefers not, plumber shrugs shoulders.Local gas office for connection of gas, was there two months ago but yesterday went to chase up some paperwork found out that without notice has shut and moved 30km away.new sewerage connection reqiures digging up cobbled street, comune not so keen.At least we can do the hole thing on a DIA which was a suprise and the comune only charges Euros 80 which was less than expected.
question is is it all worth it, only time will tell.
But at least i will be able to look back and say
I DID IT MY WAY

One day i will give more info and will keep you all informed as to how the project goes,
Steve

Yes but is your wife still talking to you??

trouble is, old blue eyes was a 'connected' man (if you get my drift) ... so he could easily do things his way - otherwise people got fitted with cement boots. You need the contacts before you sing the song :-)

Seriously, chin up. I almost always manage to detect positivity oozing out 'between the lines' of your frustrated posts, so I'm sure it's still in there and that you'll achieve your goal eventually. I think it's sometimes as much about persistance (and not knowing when your beaten!) as deep pockets.

Steve, your post should become the emblem (or is it anthem?) for the building forum. Sounds like you're a little busy, but don't disappear; Like Pigro, I sense you will come through...and all these woes shall serve for sweet discourses in our time to come... Post again when you can, because we'll all be worrying about you now!

Hope it all woks out for you, keep us posted, you sound like you will get it all sorted out in the end, what a project!
