What i like most about these pictures, is that they are all from the same sunset, over Metaponto, Basilicata March 2007

These were taken over Primaore at New Year. Looks like a rocket taking off.

The (wonderful) problem with the best views are undoubtedly the sheer volume and range, where-ever you go..........there is always a photo opportunity ! At a larger size, this early morning mist, the hilltop village (Montelparo),......wow !

Taken on the beach near Falerna

This is my house which is in a beautifully mountainous area, (we are a bit higher than Scarfel in UK Lake District) just outside our town called Picinisco, population1200 in the Abruzzo National Park. The mountains around us are spectacular. This is our view, and similar all around us. I go from room to room and spend an eternity just looking out of the windows.

The window view is from one of the bathrooms. Even better now the olive trees have been cut back and especially beautiful when not hazy.

The village with the mountains behind is the next village to us called Settefratti.

My husband is living over there now working on the house and land and I travel back to Italy for two weeks every four weeks. Cannot wait to get there on 1st June. Hope to be living there permenantly by the end of the year.

I hope you all realise this is torture for those of us currently stuck outwith Italy ... well except perhaps for juliancolls 2nd image, which reminded me a bit of manchester or somewhere "oop north" - that gorgeous rosy glow in the sky could just have been moss side ablaze in the distance :-)

seriously though, keep them coming, they're good for the soul as I sit in my gray office, trying to catch a glimpse of gray sky through a set of gray blinds.

Duh, how thick of me. I was just thinking "views". I actually don't have any photos of sunsets where Ilive, but hopefully when I go back there in 10 days time I will get some sunset pictures. And will replace the ones on the post.

Sorry, just too excited about my lovely new home and region.

Actually, the first shot wasn't Mosside, Pigro. It was Clapham Junction, but I'm surprised you didn't get the second one - Edinburgh! :laughs:

Agreed. There are "bests" everywhere and in all directions. Here's our morning view from our balcony in Petritoli toward Monte Vittore, the highest of the Sibillinis.

Sky in the Pie by Roger Mcgough

Waiter, there's a sky in my pie
Remove it at once if you please
You can keep your incredible sunsets
I ordered mincemeat and cheese.

I can't stand nightingales singing
Or clouds all burnished with gold
The whispering breeze is disturbing the peas
And making my chips go all cold.

Whose canvases hang in the Tate
I want two veg. and puff pastry
Not the Universe heaped on my plate.

OK I'll try just a spoonful
I suppose I've got nothing to lose
Mm...the colours quite tickle the palette
With a blend of delicate hues.

The sun has a custardy flavour
And the cloud's are as light as air
And the wind a chewier texture
(With a hint of cinnamon there?)

This sky is simply delicious
Why haven't I tried it before?
I can chew my way through to Eternity
And still have room left for more.

Having acquired a taste for the Cosmos
I'll polish this sunset off soon
I can't wait to tuck into the night sky
Waiter! Please bring me the Moon!
