It is a scarey and brave move but looking back i think most people are glad they have at least tried. More people should try it. We too had " safe " jobs but the thought of life at age mid 30s and doing same thing here on in was even more scarey. you will need large amounts of patience and self belief to make it work, and that's the easy bit, but think of the stories to tell and satisfaction of the challenge and all will be well.

Hi Moni,
you'll be fine! Lake Garda is a fabulous place- my girlfriend and I were there last week and despite the uncharacteristically rubbish weather, it was still breathtaking.
I always seem to lose a lot of linguistic abilities every time I leave Italy, it takes me a few days to get back into it properly. No doubt in a couple of weeks you'll be speaking the local dialect with gusto! (Whoever he is)
Buona fortuna

Hi, Moni,
Yes, that sounds familiar! Gave up a home, a successful career, friends, family...moved here, where I didn't speak the language and knew no-one but my Italian partner and his mum! Yes, for a while, it feels crazy, even when you know it was the right decision, and a lot of people don't discuss how truly bad they are feeling. When I did, I found there were a lot of others who felt the same! So if you feel like a rant, whinge, or just need to vent, PM me! All the best, honey, and a hug too!!
Well, if you are nuts I'm sure you're in good company. I gave up a safe job a few years ago and ended up going into language teaching, but boredom is worse than poverty....
Language improves with use, worry not!
