9712 Bad Weather by-product!!

Hi
I have noticed a few more cars up our hill recently, esp. those normally only seen in the Autumn for chestnut and mushroom gathering. Came across a couple of guys each with a large wicker basker who were looking a bit furtive -
Buon Giorno, Porcini..... no no Signora. Niente!!

But like all good mushroom hunters they were being less than economical with the truth. Came across them a few minutes later, scrumping from a cherry tree and there in their baskets - loads and loads of different mushrooms, chanterelles, porcini etc etc. etc..

So there is some compensation for this appalling weather.

There is a mushroom/funghi that grows well after a lot of damp/wet weather - mainly on cherry. I think it's called Grifola and perhaps that is what they were hunting.

Hi Juliancoll

They probably got some of those after the cherries but their baskets were full to the brim with loads of lovely fungi... lucky old things. If only I had the confidence and knowledge to harvest some myself. My nieghbour brings me some and he can be trusted after living around our woods for 70 years +

Have you also got an unseasonally early fungi crop?
