9682 Telecom fixed line telephone costs?

They charged me 96 Euros but I ordered over the net. Not sure if that makes a difference.

My first question is do you have an old telephone line or is it a completely new line?
If its a old one being replaced the cost will be minimal not more than at couple of hundred euros a most.
If it's a completely new line across another's property then you could be talking more than a thousand euros.
Also be prepared for a long wait we had to wait for over two years for a completely new line as one of the landowners refused to allow our telephone line to cross their property. In the end they had to be taken to court.

my house is in the middle of a field at the end of a dirt track, it cost nearly 600 euros, 3 years ago, I got an italian friend to challenge this cost as there had previously been a phone at the property and it only took half an hour to connect me, but no joy. as i am a long way from the exchange i had to pay.
I think they make it up as they go along so good luck!

My family home was unoccupied for many years as most of the older members had passed away and no one from my generation had any real interest apart from me. After several years I managed to buy my relatives out and it was at last mine.
On one corner of the house Telecom had attached some sort of cable which I assume is an earth cable which runs right down the wall and into the ground.
I was told this was 'abuso della casa' and the cable should be removed as it was done without permission. :madd:
A chap from telecom duly came and had a look and after he spoke with the builder and my power of attorney a solution was found.
They would remove the cable from the wall, put a small post at a far corner outside the house and implant the cable right through my garden and run it into my cellar.
Well it would be out of sight and perhaps I would get reduced rental or a free new phone line for letting them do this in my property. :no:
No, not only did I have to pay for the line connection but I had to pay for all the work to relocate the bloody cable which shouldn't have been there in the first place. €2962 it cost me. :veryconfused::sad:

yes it a new line. It sounds an outragous price as well as the time one has to wait. I hope since an old line goes to an adjoining property that I won't have to pay so much. Since I have limited funds this year maybe it would be a good thing to wait 3 years!!!

Unless you really, really need a land line, think hard about it. Not only are the costs of installing the line totally up to the whims of Telecom Italia (and their default seems to be to fleece the customer), but the line rentals are also expensive.

If you can't get ADSL, forget about Skype. We've got (supposedly) TIM mobile broadband, but the signal is still too weak for Skype. If you're in a town, you'll probably do much better, but if you're out in the sticks, then technology is hit and miss.

There really doesn't appear to be any fixed & hard rule. We had a new line installed & we know from the installation guys (who were wonderful throughout) that it involved 38 NEW poles. Some were old ones that needed replacement, whilst over half were brand new ones. Once they'd obtained the various permissions, it happened quite quickly & the cost: Eur 690 inc IVA! Total time from ordering to installed was approximately 5 months.

we paid 900E for one hour's work to take down a line and put in a new wire into the house... the exchange is 5 km away but no poles were needed - just a lot of money. It does work but yet another unxpected cost.

I presume if I have a fixed line telephone that I can get ADSL, but perhaps that is not the case. I am not in a town but only a few minutes away from one. Where abouts are you in Italy, English Teacher? I have a TIM mobile but not broadband and sometimes the signal is OK, but as we are 500m up if there is low cloud, the signal is hopeless.

We're also 500m up, about 15 km away from San Severino, mid Marche. I don't hold out any hopes for adsl, as we're a long way from the nearest adsl connection. I think you have to be within a few km of adsl to get the line, so it's pretty hopeless for us.

You need to be 8? km from the central office. Centralino I guess in Italian terms. The place with all the phone hardware. Problem that isn't 8 in a straight line. It's in wire length. So if the wire goes up and around a mountain then the driving distance would be less.

I'm hoping for more upgrades to the cell phone system. It seems most of the cities of any size are up to HSPDA which would be plenty fast for most of us.

Regarding adsl (broadband) internet provider. We are at 627 metres and nowhere near a town but we have adsl because we face the "right mountain" The height was an advantage. It is supplied by ariadsl from Foligno, a long way away. So it is worth asking around to find out what wireless services are available in your area. 3.5G. If your phone supports it then it might show up on the screen. Mine does when in a HSPDA covered area. From what I've seen most larger towns have it now. The question is how quickly they roll it out to smaller areas. But even just plain 3G is faster then an Edge cell phone connection.

Unlike most people here who seem to want a land line at all costs we will be getting it removed the unsustainably high costs cannot today be justified and as most of the mobile cell phone operators have a decent signal here we will go onto these for internet too.
last month's bill (as a business operator it costs us more ) were as follows:
line 1. normal house use (hardly any use!) Euro 68.
line 2. dedicated fax line (lot of use) Euro 109,50.
line 3. dedicated internet line (they take 3 months in advance) Euro 204,50.
line 4. office line Euro 539,00( this because they "finally" debited six months of calls to netherlands all at once)
total bill April 2008 Euro 921,00.

suggestion :stick with a cell phone and use skype/voip etc for distance calls.

Have you looked at pamfax, its a free bit of software from Skype, that uses your Skypecredit...........may help ........

I had to make a call to my insurance company. Their green number doesn't work with a cell phone :veryconfused: By the end of the call I'd spent about one month of Telecom Italias fixed line cost. :eeeek:

Then I bought one of those calling cards. Except the "great" deal is horrid if you call from a cellphone. The cellphone companies all have deals for calling countries I've never heard of :wideeyed:

If I was making lots of LD calls I'd get one of the deals. What's the all you can call plan? 10 Euros a month?

Sadly my SKYPE signal is so weak I am unable to have a conversation with anyone. My family have been calling from UK to my mobile and the latest bill there is £350!
Since I am not a business my costs will not be anything like yours Sebastiano.
So far I have been told to connect my phone to conferm my new telephone number??? But I have nothing to connect it to yet.

Sorry to sound like Mr Skype :laughs:, get yourself a SKYPEIN Number, we have a UK number that clients and family call, and its just the cost of a local call for them, once you have this you can divert the number to your home land line or mobile, it really works well and save a fortune .............good luck

Connect? Or did they send you a number to call? They sent me a number to call. The way I understand it if you had a old connection just calling the automated number would be enough to get the service turned back on. If they sent you a number you can't call it from a cell. Call Telecom direct. 187 I guess

You might also want to look at efax and popfax.com.........cheap email to fax services.........good luck

Don't do it!! We had terrible experiences with Telecom Italia, and we're not by any means the only ones. I point blank refuse to have a fixed Telecom line in our new house. We have used Skype on a wireless internet connection with mixed results, and for important calls use the mobiles. If all else fails, you can always write - although my experiences with the Poste Italiana haven't exactly been perfect either!!!

I think it's count my blessings time! We were offered connection at 150 euros for distance of 100 metres or 400 euros for more and were charged 150 for what I thought a v generous 100 mtrs of wire. As for ADSL, we have it and it works well enough even tho we are a fair way from the exchange.

Well. I've now got my fixed line which has ADSL built in. I have signed up to Teleconomy Internazionale for 10 euro per month dial UK Europe USA and Canada unlimited calls, so I am happy with that. I'm hoping the cost will be as in the telephone directory: 96 euro + 124 euro per 200 metres of cable + 50 euro for my Alice Free which includes modem, CD and 3 connectors. Since I am not sure when the free calls will activate as the site tells me it's in lavorazione, my family are ringing me from Uk using call2.com for about 3p per minute. I'm not complaining about Telecom yet!!
