....for this but we're on a much smaller scale. The man who sweeps our paths/streets has only a witches broomstick! Maybe he could magic them away?

I think it may be Manutencoop who deal with this - at least that's the case in Lunigiana. You call the freephone number (numero verde) and they tell you when they pass by the area and you should have the stuff out on the pavement for them to collect. It was free and pretty efficient - within a week of calling them.
I don't know if it's the same for all areas but I found 2 numero verde in the pagine bianche - 800 503804 and 800 253954. If you don't get anywhere with them you could just try looking for a manutencoop office in your area.
Hello
I would love to be asking a more exciting question but needs must! When we bought a small house in Umbria the cantina contained the old windows from the house. They, of course, would be removed but never were. Do the comune have large rubbish collections - free or paid for - as in the UK. Any idea how to go about shifting it? The road to the cantina is about Ape width.
We live in a village in Umbria. What happens here is that people ask the man who sweeps the street with a little lorry and cuts and maintains the verges etc. to take stuff away.
He does help clear the rubbish skips and will Big Rubbish to the riciclerie . If you have such a person ask him and be prepared to tip him too. If not contact your local Servizi Ambientali.
