9853 Geometra Fees

Hi,
I had a detailed, but expensive, estimate from a geometra (in Rapagnano, Le Marche) with some quantified costs, some estimated rates and a single lump sum item of E2000 for site safety.
The work has now been done. All the other items have been explained in terms of man hours and materials. But the E2000 remains as a lump sum to be paid.
When I queried the item before the start I was told that the site had to be secured against intruders (or an enormous fine would be levied against the builder) and there had to be a book prepared to go to the authorities.
The only site protection was a bit of orange plastic netting across the front of the property at one point during the facade work and I have seen no evidence of a book. My feeling is that it's just another way of releiving me of a further E2000 !!!
Why am I surprised ?
Has anyone experienced this charge, or any other charges for site safety ?

Regards,
Paul Norman

We're quite close to you, in Monte San Martino, and have not experienced this (although it could be buried in other things I suppose). I generally ask my lawyer if anything looks dodgy.

Cheers

Several users of this site have cautioned against using a lawyer to sue geometras with good reason, I'm sure!

This may seem feeble but we have found that our geometra won't get out of bed for less than 1000 euros so to speak. Here in Umbria it seems common enough to charge this amount just to get a piece of paper signed by the Comune. In 10 years we have learnt that it evens out in the end. So if you intend to remain friends with your Geometra (ie if it benefits you in the long run), it may be worth an arguement and paying 1000 instead of 2000. A bit of shouting will harm neither of you!
