You can get Italian radio stations through an Italian digital TV receiver, coupled to a good aerial. As far as I have discovered digital radios do not exist in Italy - though I could be wrong! You might consider an internet radio (bought in the UK, prices start at about £50) if you have a wi-fi setup. That will get you any of about 9000 stations from around the world.

I think you are right about DAB not existing here, as i made a point in checking the stereos at our local Euronics/Unieuro. Not one single stereo of any kind, had DAb logos on them anywhere.
Seems strange that it doesn't appear to be available here, as it's been available in the UK for a number of years now...

No, we don't have internet connection. When my husband has finally had enough of the 9-5, we shall spend longer in Italy and am thinking of having a laptop. Presumably one can access radio et al that way? Or are there snags?
Annie.

As to digital radio or DAB forget it if you don't get VHF fairly well and even then there is not a lot available in Italy. Short wave works reasonably for the World Service only.
For the real deal I recommend broadband plus a laptop and you will be able to access the BBC website and listen live to any BBC radio channel and I can thoroughly recommend a little VHF transmitter by Knopex (available at Co-op hypermarkets!) which plugs in to the earphone socket on the laptop and transmits to any VHF radio in the house up to 10 metres away. You can have Wogan with your breakfast and we even listen to the beeb on the terrace from the laptop in an upstairs bedroom. If you have a phone connection then basic broadband could well be available and will be perfectly adequate for the above - good luck.

We just listen to radio on our laptop which is plugged through the stereo. It's amazing, we switch between radio 4 and irie fm (a local jamaican radio station!)

In today's Guardian Weekend magazine it states that;-
"the World Service no longer broadcasts to Western Europe". [although you might be able to pick up its 'West Africa beam']
The article suggests using DRM radio [Digital Radio Mondiale], as DRM is already used by BBC around Europe.
.
Anyone want to buy a [hardly used] shortwave radio?

You don't need real broadband for this. Even the most basic internet connection through the GPRS mobile phone system (as written about endlessly on this forum) will pick up the BBC programmes and also Italian radios 1,2 and 3 (it's 3 that I often like). However some other radio stations do seem to require a better connection than GPRS - so if you want everything you will need UMTS or conventional wired broadband.
I want to say the digital terrestial includes some radio stations but not a massive number.
If you want radio stations and have a southern exposure you could consider getting a satellite dish. Even a basic low setup will get you lots of radio stations. You would need something like a stereo receiver and speakers [unless you want to listen on your TV ]
