I'll let you know.....the other issue we have is....where we are going to live in Casalini...there is a mountain in the way of signals....we've been told that vodofone do a 3G....all to do with your mobile phone....I'm not to sure about this so excuse my ignorance....however......neither my husband or I have a 3G phone...so we were wondering if anyone out there would be kind enough (if they have a 3G phone) to come to our house and check to see how strong the signal is...or course refreshments would be supplied. ...any help would be appreciated

Hi!
Maybe you can just ask a person there to check if the signals is sufficient. For sure there will be people around with those phones:smile:

Hi Stardust

Dear Stardust may I suggest that you do a search on this Forum as there is LOTS of information on this subject. Using mobiles, landlines and wireless. We are in Umbria and because we face the "right mountain" have wireless internet from Aria adsl based in Foligno. intro

Hi Stardust
we are just the other side of the hill in Oro near Tavernelle.we`ve had broadband for almost a year now with telecom italia,do you have a fixed telephone line? havn`t had have any problems with it but waiting for the connection was qiute some time.:laughs:

If you have a dial-up connection then you should get the basic ADSL service from Alice and quite honestly I find it entirely adequate, beware of offers of speeds "up to" offered at extra cost as they seldom materialise. You'll get a box delivered with modem etc and you may need some help with a computer savvy Italian speaking friend to follow the instructions. Good Luck!

As lowlander said, ask around. Go to your local Comune, they will have information about any difficulties in the area.

For those of us in rural Umbria it seems that wireless broadband is the only answer. Ariadsl, as I mentioned in the thread earlier this year, is our supplier. What we find astonishing is that there is no support when the system fails, except during their variable office hours from Mon to Fri. A girl will take a message at 9.30 am on a Monday morning and a tecnico will eventually ring back. He can offer no reply when you say....the service has been "going off at around 6 pm on a Friday night and we can't contact you. Last weekend it was a Bank Holiday so it was 3 days before we could report the fault. This has happened every weekend for the past 4 weekends" ...He patiently listens but no excuse is given! If you choose Ariadsl do be aware there are few trained technicians who can come to your house and the support service is poor to say the least. Some how they have recently won a large contract....if only running a business in England had been that easy!

We have AriaDSL too. I admit that customer support is non-existant at weekends, but all the same, I think we can be thankful that at least it is free. They haven't cottoned-on to the whole premium rate call/call queuing/service centre in Poona racket yet and you do, eventually, get to speak to a real technico.

But what a way to run an internet business Marc? The broadband service itself isn't cheap, support is paid for in the annual contract. Someone close to me is trying to write a website for the local cycling team.....even the dog is keeping out of his way at weekends!
Internet connection
