:winki:Oh lucky you on the move! Good luck.
I can't giveyou any advice on what to / or not to take - I have just posted a question on the 'furniture' heading asking the same thing! I think it would be helpful to learn of other peoples experiences.
You sound as though you are a gardener? Me too and I've even wondered if it is possible to take some very precious plants but don't know the rules on this (only just thought about it)
Don't suppose you really have time to read all my rambling LOL
Enjoy yourself
:winki:

Hey of course I have time to read your reply. Its great when people send their best wishes.
Yes I love gardening. I am sad to be leaving my English garden behind. I dont think you can take plants into Italy - so I have been collecting seeds from my garden, in a camera film pot, to take with me!!! Then when, one day, we buy somewhere with a garden, if any of the seeds grow, I can think of it as my "English part" of the garden.!!
Are you moving out to Italy too? From where and to where?
Good Luck to you too, and let us all know how it goes. Thanks again for the reply.

Durobird, I wrote a long reply the other day but it went off into cyberspace (well at least I took too long and was logged off!! they don't account for poor sods like me that spend too much time yakking!)
We live on the border of Dorset and Hampshire by the sea hence we want to move to be near the sea, at least. South Liguria or Northern Tuscany. We have to retire first though - sell the business and house - certainly not an imminent move for us - just in the first stages of wishing and hoping.
I would have to have a large garden as I do love that.
I don't have a cat any more the last one lived till she was 21 and I still miss her but decided we would have more holidays hence not bought another.
Back over in September - cannot wait!!!
Hope your move goes well. Good luck with it all.

You can take plants to Italy. As far as I know only Opium Poppies are a no no. Friends have roses bought from Asda and dare I say it, I brought some vines over..we call them "the Weybridge Vines" as they came from Surrey and they love it here ...as we do. Daffodil and Agapanthus bulbs from Homebase and M&S, and a few house plants came in the van but really not a good idea as they "burn" on a windowsil and unless they are "long time" friends not worth the bother.

Thanks for the reply Borrini. Roberto is over from Italy, so we have been busy, so I am sorry for the delay in replying. But it was nice to hear about your plans.
Noble - when you say you took plants, bulbs, roses etc. Did you take them by hand luggage, suitcase, or in the furniture van?
When my van goes, we wont even have a garden. So the only way to bring things later, after buying our house and garden, would be when I fly to and from UK to visit my Mum. So then it would mean things going on the plane with me. Is this still allowed?
Or can bulbs, plants etc be found just as easily over in Italian garden centers?:veryconfused:

In Umbria I can now find daffodil bulbs and agapanthus aliums etc. no problem, but those big bargain bags of daff bulbs I have never seen here and they were bought in Homebase and brought by car. The wild animals don't munch daffodils but do like tulips! I brought roses etc in my suitcase no problems. The removers brought other things that were "fragile". The Kordes ground cover roses sold by Rosa Barni, online from Pistoia are excellent and reasonably drought resistent. Google for web address.

Thanks Noble, I'll bear all this in mind for when I can start my Italian garden.

We've also brought over seeds and seedlings from the US (if there are any other Americans out there), including some palm seeds for types of palm not readily available here in Puglia (but originally Med natives), passionfruit seeds, and avocado seedlings. So far, so good, most everything grows without much trouble at all.
Congratulations on the sale of your property and your forthcoming move to Italy.
Be ruthless when it comes to getting rid of unnecessary stuff we all seem to acumulate. If you have not needed it before you are not needing it now.
Best wishes regarding the finding of a new house which you would like and Misty will enjoy for many years to come.
