It is a good idea to keep all the threads on the subject together.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Yes, please. Can I join the club?
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
I like the idea Sally,
I had been thinking it might be also possible to set up some sort of exchange or free disposal of unwanted yet still good furniture or white goods? sort of an exchange and mart , but keep prices below say100e to stop it being a free for all or a commercial enterprise. Its just that after looking for a freezer yesterday the prices surprised me (I want to be able to freeze and store a glut of plums and pears, and there is only so much jam we can make.)
So to kick it off, anyone in Marche able to oblige
(sorry Sal dont mean to hijack your thread)
Angie

Not quite sure you can charge even 100 euros Angie. Whatever you charge will be always mean it's a commercial enterprise.
Why not extend then the sub forum title to "Nature, Environmental Issues and Recycling"???

Brilliant idea Sally, how I wonder do we set about it?

Why don't you start a group in the group’s section?
It is not really pertinent to the main Italy forum but would be perfect as a special interest group. If you make it an open group, then anyone who has an interest can join and you can keep all the information easily accessible in one place.

Angie I suggested some time ago a section for "Italian Politics" in a thread under this section and Ronald agreed, and it happened. Same for Gala with the "Furniture" section. Maybe the term "Sub Forum" isn't the right one.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
I always understood you meant a section, Sally, just like the ones you mentioned. Possibly, it will be again the case of asking Ronald.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Yes I have actually just e-mailed The Boss. Cheers Gala

Will have a look and see if it makes sense - perhaps a group (as Nielo suggests) would be a good idea. Problem with something as wide as nature and environment is that thread topics can often span several sub-forums (from politics to travel, etc)
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Thank you for your response Ronald although these groups don't seem to work these days.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
I also had suggested to Ronald that the Furniture section heading here be extended to say" Furniture And Furnishings" or "Fixtures and Fittings" or something along these lines. Any suggestions???

How about 'mobili'
On the ‘groups’ idea there is nothing wrong with groups except people don’t use them.
If there is a lot of interest in a subject then I’m sure people would learn to use the groups section in the way intended.
At the moment the section does not really have special interest groups that are not covered in the main sections. For example there already are sections for Abruzzo etc, and because they are not instantly visible to new members or because their membership has been limited by invitation they do not get much traffic or interest.
Perhaps if you started a group on environmental issues, it would attract more people to the section, and if it doesn’t then maybe there is insufficient interest in the subject and at least you would find out before Ronald has to create new sections on the main forum.

Sally, Nielo's comments seem to be very valid and Ronald may consider starting a sub-forum if the participation is high. It should be a group open to anyone.
As for the "Furniture" sub-forum, what about using the title "Furniture and Fittings"?
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
It's as valid as "Weddings in Italy" I feel. More so since many people post about their wildlife and environmental concerns, like the pollution in Bussi. People don't bother with the groups. What's the actual problem with making it a category under the general Forum???
Cheers Gala for the title suggestion. Better still - "Furniture, Fixtures and Furnishings"
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Perhaps there ought to be a separate section for 'pets' too? There are lots of members who have pets and who travel with them or need advice about pet care in Italy.
Sally why don't you conduct a poll to see if people would be interested in joining a group to discuss environmental issues?
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
I remember that I suggested a "Pets" sub-forum in the past, but nothing happened. I still think it is a good idea, so I agree with you, Nielo, as it would concentrate all the threads on this subject. Easier for newcomers, too.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Thanks for your suggestion Nielo but alas I am not interested in forming a group. Therefore no poll needed. I really do not see why "Nature, Environmental Issues And Recycling" cannot be an integral part of the Forum.

If you think that "Nature, Environmental Issues And Recycling" is an area which deserves discussion and you feel there are many others interested in discussing the subject separately from the forums already available (for example the region affected or health and safety for pollution etc,) Why are you not interested in starting a group? At least it would give you a platform and the posts could then be incorporated in the new sub section if Ronald decided it is of merit and use to the forum as a whole.
Gala, do you think it would be worth starting a group for pet owners?

Gala, do you think it would be worth starting a group for pet owners?[/quote]
Why not, at least it would be a start. What we should to is to make sure that there is sufficient information in it regarding travel requirements, tips, general assistance and also to re-direct newcomers or other members who do not know that the group exists. It should be a group open to anyone wishing to participate in it.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Done!
The group is open to all who wish to become members and visible to all, including guests.
Now all that is needed is to let people know it exists. If there is no interest then it only took a couple of seconds to create so nothing lost.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
But where is the "group" to be found Nielo? Can you give directions before we need a section for "lost and found"?

Glad to see you found it Julian but for anyone else ...
At the very top of the page are some headings GROUPS is to the right of 'Members Map' and above ‘Italy Magazine Forums'. If you click on ‘groups’ it will show all the groups that have been created. The one for pet owners is called Pet's Corner (sorry about that I was in a hurry!) It is an open group so anyone can join.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
I think this is a very good idea as we are trying to get rid of a large wall unit.

Sally
I agree with you that there is probably more interest in the environment than on italian weddings (which seems to be full of pseudo adverts).
There are lots of other sub forums which have some element of duplication - eg property sales & renovation - can't see what the problem is. I wouldn't look in politics for info about environement.
And I didn't even know that groups exist [but then I've only been a member for a year ;-)]

Funny thing - the first place I would look for comment on 'environmental issues' would be the politics section! Takes all sorts, as they say
Sounds like a sensible idea.
