10153 A bit of nostalgia for (northen English) ex-pats?

Just read a superb book that had me feeling patriotically northern and very ex-patish even though I only moved slightly south into Derbyshire (which I love). It is extremely witty and also very informative and passionate. Not your usual travel book. Has anyone else read "Pies and Prejudice in search of the north" by Stuart Maconie? I can recommend it. I always read avidly any book that mentions Italy and might not even have glanced at this if it wasn't my book group's choice. I'm glad I did.

But this book is about northern ENGLAND???? It's available very cheaply second-hand at Amazon.

"Lots of planets have a north"
Doctor Who 2005

quote from front of book (but I must confess to being a Doctor Who fan as well - is there an Italian equivelant of David Tennant?)
