10158 The Italian Connection

The one I'm referring to is Frankfurt - Hahn Airport. Can anyone suggest a pretty place, town or countryside nearby to spend some time in prior to a late flight??? The first flight gets in mid afternoon.

The airport isn't far from the beautiful Rhine valley with towns like Bingen which are well worth a visit. However, I don't think you'll have time enough to travel that far. For a little exposure to the palatinate life why not try a quick visit to Simmern - half an hour by bus from the aiport and the centre is quite typical of the area

Looked on 'Google Earth' and put in 'Frankfurt - Hahn Airport'

Bernkastel is nearby, on the Rhine
[near to Kues - for some reason Bernkastel doesn't show up straight away on the aerial views]

Its a beautiful place - lots of photos on the Google Earth site]

Just checked - its 30Km from the airport - about 30 mins by road [according to mappy]

[hire a car?]

Thanks Guys. My friend doesn't drive so will go by bus. Looks a bit Hansel, Gretel and Gingerbread House to me!!! lol

Unbelievable. My friend has got her connections on differernt days!!! lol So possibly will have to stay overnight and is now thinking of Luxembourg. Any suggestions for a cheap hotel or b and b???

Luxembourg might be too expensive. Any ideas for cheap accommodation in either of these two places already mentioned???

Wouldn't the cheap accommodation - added to the cost of the cheap flights - equal the direct flight cost? Seems a total waste of time.

The overnight accommodation wasn't intended. There was mistake in the booking which means the two flights are on two consecutive days. To bring forward the second flight to Stansted costs €65 apparently, the admin cost being €35. Flight prices between Italy and the UK at the moment are extremely high with all airlines. Have a look J+C. You'd be surprised. Trains too are expensive from Frankfurt to the UK., so that is not an option either. That journey actually takes 15 hours - Unbelievable, given the relatively short distance.
