10196 Cost of Satelite TV €700?

Hi
I asked our local electrican for a quote for satelite TV. He has quoted €700.00 for the dish and installation etc. This will give us access to tv channels all from all over the world including UK, US etc., Having searched the archives, other forum members have a similar service but I can not find anything in the archives about cost. Please can any one advice is €700.00 a reasonable quote?

Thks for reading.

Actually that doesn't doesn't seem to bad.
I had a normal 80cm dish installed in Germany a few years ago and it was around that amount, perhaps a little more.
Last month I had a 150cm dish installed in Tuscany which is the size all the experts said was needed to receive BBC1,2, etc....
It certainly did the job but cost me double the price you have been quoted.
So if you are sure you will receive the programmes you would like I would say it seems OK.

Ianthy, it is impossible to tell whether this is a good price or not without knowing the dish size, whether it is motorised, LNB type, noise figure, and receiver model.

Our system cost us €50 and a sky subscription in the UK, but we don’t get the BBC or ITV, because here in Abruzzo we would need a 3m dish and with the wind speeds round here a 3m dish is a liability.

Or a UFO .............:laughs::laughs::laughs:

Deborah Do you get BBC 1? Did not think it would be possible.

My new 120cm dish cost me €260 (installed), last year. It is not motorised...

Plus - if there's anyone in the Lake Como area would like a good quality 80cm dish free - send me a PM. Must be collected though!

Hi Nicola
Ricky here, we don't have any satellite. we download all our TV, movies etc from the Internet via adsl, but we get a lot of bbc and itv, mostly US TV.

I bought a 80 cm dish, lnb, bracket, cable and bolts for 50 euros here in Puglia. I installed it myself but I reckon on less than 100 euros to get it installed. I brought a basic receiver over from the UK (not Sky) and aimed the dish at Hotbird for the Italian channels. For 700 euros I assume you are getting a very large dish and or motorised.

Does anyone know what size dish you need for the Salento area in Puglia to pick up UK Sky.

Thanks

Martin

As some other users said without the dish size, the type of receiver and if you have a motor or not will help advise of the price.

First thing to learn about sat tv is the bigger the dish the more you can pick up. You said that you will be able to pick up channels from all around the world so i guess a motor is included in this price or you will have a big dish with 5 or so LNB attached.

I have a 1.2 meter which cost €180. A very good receiver (€200 and a motor which was around €60.) wall mount was €20 and i suppose i spent another €20 in cables and plugs.

i installed it myself after many hours of trying and research on the internet so i spent around €480 in total

Considering it took me about two days to get the positioning right (using a motor) which i'm sure a professional will do in a few hours i guess €700 is not a bad price considering they will have all the correct equipment and knowledge to make the installation faster.

I have seen cheap sat kits for as little as €60 and very simple to install if you are not using a motor or no more than 2 LNB's but taking into account you say amercan and uk channels this will take time to get the positioning spot on.

i'm pretty sure American channels are on the Western satellites and Italian are on eastern (13 and 19 east) uk channels are at 28 east so taking into account the large scope that you will need i'm almost certain you will need a motor for this.

Also remember that you will only be able to pick up free to air channels unless you spend €200 + for a modified receiver which allows you to enter channels keys if known.

If your specs are the same as mine or bigger then the price is good if not drag an Italian friend with you to speak in dialect and see the difference in price!

I'm near Verona and on a 1.2 meter dish i cannot receive american channels through my system . I can get uk channels but sometimes bbc and itv disappear. (mainly in the evening)

Hope this helps.
