10232 Scopoli, an alternative vacation

I came across this story in the local rag today, and have found an online story, but nowhere can I find a contact detail. However, no doubt a more comprehensive search on Scopoli 'il villagio della Solidarieta' (a charity) might turn something up, or a phone call to the comune.

This has got to be the ultimate in holiday recycling. Scopoli was badly damaged in the 1997 earthquake, and many of the residents were provided with rather nice wooden chalets set in wonderful wild countryside. Now their houses are fixed, so the chalets became unoccupied, until some bright spark came up with the idea of letting them out as holiday retreats!

Clever - huh!

It sounds like an excellent idea and I do hope that it would become a reality. The idea of recycling the chalets and using them to provide holidays for people who need them can only be praised. A very good example of what a community working together can do.

I am not saying I am an authority as I have only seen the cabins at Colfiorito but word was that in winter they were freezing cold to live in and in summer it was roasting hot inside those cabins/prefab buildings. It was suggested that "refugees" might be grateful to live in them, so Charles, this is certainly a new twist in the tale.
