David, cool it. lol There are far far bigger fish to fry if you care to look.

Anyway what is the "Friday Jokes" thread if not spam or is it that members have all creatied them??? Get a grip!!!

No seriously, our cat likes spam.....I mentioned it as I was hopefully opening a possible discussion amongst far more knowledgeable people in this respect here lol

As for Friday Jokes, they were short stories or ironic depictions of a situation communicated with the intent of being humorous.

My cat hates Spam and much prefers the bigger fish - fried or otherwise.

Off topic. Flagellate yourself.

You've been watching the Da Vinci Code too often, haven't you! Ehh? Ehh?

one of the most badly written, silliest books I have ever read, but there you go I expect some peple have enjoyed it.

Well, if you are going for the 'off topic' prize (Nardini or Angie) - you've won, jointly! The only thing the Da Vinci Code lacks (as a literary offering) is a characterful cat (who I am certain would not relish fried spam!)

I do agree. But "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail" was far more intriguing. Couldn't put it down the first time I read it way back in the 80's, and now they steal a load of theories from that and come up with The DaVinci Code. How money talks!

Yes I know... but then I'm not alone am I??? :nah:

As this has wondered so far off topic (and why ever not? I say) has anyone else seen the fresco of the last supper in the monastery museum in Castelli? Where there is absolutely no doubt that the figure next to Christ is female. Dan Brown sure missed a trick! But he was probably looking for his pet cat at the tine or maybe he was just tired, so who can blame him? If only he had used spam to tempt it back he might not have missed out on this gem.

I wonder if there is a Google or Wikipedia website to back my theory?

I don't know I'm sure - but I reckon we all know someone who's not a million miles away who will!

Just read your post Carole. Surely not thinking of me??? lol

Anway I was just replying - Could this be the one Nielo??? "San Rocco, at the entrance to the village, with a fresco by Andrea De Litio"

Further

"Some of the finest Renaissance work in Abruzzo, the frescos by Andrea De Lito are a point of interest in the cathedral as well. Outside the cathedral, in the main square, be sure to watch your feet. Thick glass protects Roman mosaics set directly into the pavement. As you finish exploring take a turn through Belvedere Garden to enjoy the view of the valley and sea"

Here is a website for Castelli Frescos

Oh I don’t think it is the right one!!! lol
I’ll have another look!!!

Here is another one but it is Lazio so not the right one yet!!!

CASTELLI ROMANI - Unknown and Beautiful Italy: A TOUR OF CENTRAL ITALY: CASTELLI ROMANI

It is such a pity, I have actually been there and seen the frescos myself but I can’t seem to find a website to compare with my personal experience. I’m sorry, I’m such a failure !!lol

Give me time I’m learning………..

Nielo are is my suggestion useless then???

Also I had a long search on Google and see you menntionned it on abruzzolutely. It was in a museum and not in a monastry!!! lol

Back to the drawing board.

Here we go but it is in Italian!!! I'll see if I can find something in English

Castelli dell'Abruzzo, torri dell'Abruzzo, Castelli italiani

Well this seems closer to the mark. There's a tapestry called The Last Supper in Montorio al Vomano, in the province of Teramo. Here's the link - Montorio al Vomano - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sally the museum is in the monastery, it is really annoying mot to be able to find a website to describe it for me!!!

It is so tiring to have to describe personal experiences when it is so much easier (normally) to find a website to do it for you.

Give me time I’m sure it’s there somewhere!!!!lol :reallyembarrassed:

Is this thread some type of Google competition? Can we all join in?

Well I'm using Yahoo!!! lol Yes you can but careful not to tread on Nielo's toesis!!! lol

I'll tiptoe gently around Nielo and I'll be even more careful not to steal your thunder Sally.

Oh yes Julian. I can’t find a website which accurately describes my personal experience and I know that my post is worthless without a link to something.

Sally has tried but really all she has come up with is my description on Abruzzolutely and although Goofgle found it, I don’t think it counts.

Maybe there is a conspiracy to keep it quiet, because Castelli is small and could not cope with the worldwide publicity?

Nielo, I'm Googling like mad here - trying to big up Castelli and put it on the world map - but all I keep finding is this thread! :laughs:
I'll tiptoe gently around Nielo and I'll be even more careful not to steal your thunder Sally.
Wise Girl!!!
Wise Girl!!!
Not quite - but brave enough to take you on at this Googling game!

Well I think this could be the image Nielo had in mind Campli - convento di Sant Onofrio: foto acampli002.jpg

Oh come on you two!!!!

I’ve only been there and seen it with my (admittedly poor) eyes, surely you can find something on Google?!!

I wish I’d taken some photos but the batteries in my camera ran out and I know no one will believe me if there is not a Google or Wicki site to back me up.

So not the image, sugar. Well any of these - Castelli - chiesa di San Salvatore: immagini fotografiche

Castelli | I Borghi più belli d'Italia

I bow out. Maybe the greatest Googler ever known here, Gala, will find it tomorrow.

No Sally Campli is miles and miles away. I’m talking Castelli in the Teramo region of Abeuzzo.

There was a monastery, which made ceramics ( for which the town is now famous) but the monks also painted frescos on the walls of the monastery and these survive in the museum.

One of the frescos depicts a female figure sitting next to Christ, in a painting of the last supper.

Perhaps if you have not seen or experienced it no amount of Googling will compensate?

Now that was funny - Gala the Googler.

Will Gala steal the thunder from right under Sallys nose?

Nielo I have already posted links to Castelli in Teramo!!! My last post was from the previous Castelli link but a few pages further on. I do understand it is a ceramic museum too.

I was hoping that this video might show the fresco but alas no. Beautiful cermaics though.

Sally, next time you are visiting your house in Pratola |Peligna, take a trip out to Castelli and see for yourself!!!

I am sure the real thing will mot live up to the Google experience, but what is the point of seeing or experiencing anything for yourself when Google can supply a free second hand review, which any one can find?

I cant find it!!! lol

Anyway Nielo, you are behind the times - we have moved on to Youtube now.

Youtube? Is that another of those Russian pipelines?

Lol!!!!111!1!!!

Hi, it looks as if I missed all the fun last night..... and I do not think that I am a great Googler.... nothing wrong with it, though, if you find the correct information....
By the way, I found the ceramics museum, but no information on the fresco.

Do you mean you actually Googled for it? :wideeyed:

No, I was after a different kind of information: females in last supper paintings.... I also used the word Castelli, and the ceramics museum appeared.

Easier for us all I think if Nielo goes again and take a few photies.

Joking apart folks - I don't think there is anything wrong with using search engines for information. But what you do with that information, and how you choose to portray it is quite another matter.

I personally (and many other posterss here) will often use some information found in this way to re-inforce and back up some personal experience. In this way the recipient of that information is able to relate to the 'official' version and how it actually works for individuals. Classic examples of this have been the recent RAI TV licence, the long running Private Health Insurance, Car Tax, Credit Cards etc. etc.

But when the search result carries no anecdotal evidence I feel I'm back where I started. I value the personal input on the question, and if it is (can be) supported by a piece of 'Googled' information too - so much the better.

If I can't provide that when I'm trying to help with some piece of information I always try to say (as do many others). 'this is purely my personal point of view!'

But to post a Googled 'link' and then to back it up with cut and pasted comments from other sites on the net can, and often is, very misleading! (especially for inexperienced viewers)
Easier for us all I think if Nielo goes again and take a few photies.
I reckon Nielo is winding us up and has never been outside of Brixton - let alone seen a mysterious female at the Last Supper.
I reckon Nielo is winding us up and has never been outside of Brixton - let alone seen a mysterious female at the Last Supper.
Look Julian, what does it matter whether I have ever been anywhere? I can participate just as well with bits and pieces I find on the World Wide Web. Also If I find something to do with Italy I can post the link or cut and paste it here to save everyone else the trouble of having to look for things themselves.

By the way how did you know about Brixton???:laughs:

You may never leave Brixton - I heard they've thrown away the key. So, the only way out is to keep digging. :laughs:
By the way how did you know about Brixton???:laughs:
He is at the end of your road - third floor bed-sit... See? Wave to him, Jules...

And to think this all started with a pussy cat.................!

No honestly folks the Internet is a wonderful thing. I may never have left Brixton but with the help of Google or Yahoo or Wikipeadia I can expound about almost anything with total confidence.

Ask about anywhere in Italy and I can usually find an answer; ask about the Sudan and it just takes a bit longer.:laughs:

Julian, is that really you waving to me?:jimlad:

Yes - I'm in C block too.

The sales of Spam (which I really didn't believe was still manufactured) rose by 10% in the last year in the United States. This is being attributed to the credit crunch, along with the rise of 12%, to a staggering $530 million, in sales of baked beans in the UK. (Source, who else but Time Magazine - far funnier than Google for unlikely facts).
