10385 Hello from Scotland

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum. I'm from Scotland, i'm interested in Italy because my father is Italian. I go there for a couple of weeks holiday every year but would like to go more often in the the future and learn the language better.

Welcome magni7 and good luck with learning Italian. Which part of Italy is your father from?

Hi

Thanks for the welcome. My father is from a town called Barga in Tuscany near Lucca.

Hi Magni7,
I am also from Glasgow and went to school with many Italians - I even went to the Casa Club on a Saturday morning sometimes - didn't learn any Italian - but did learn to love all things Italian. Let me know if there are any specific questions I can help you with.

Jinty

Scottish + Italian father.
What were the odds that your origins were from Barga? :winki:

Welcome to IM Magni7....
Well well yet another Scot - we'll have 'half a clan' if it goes on like this! Isn't it nice to have people from such a wide variety of places!

A warm welcome from me too Magni7. I'm from Glasgow but although Italy is very much in my heart no Italian blood in me whatsoever, well as far as I know. (just joking)

"Cinemangiare" ... an opportunity for those near Glasgow/Edinburgh to polish up on your Italian this coming week with a new Italian movie (subtitled in English) followed by a discounted meal in one of the better Italian eateries in the city.

This is the start of a regular series featuring new Italian cinema (first flm is "Pizzicato" by Edoardo Winspeare) plus discounted (-20%) dining, under the auspices of the Italian Consulate and cultural institute - so not just a cynical ploy to fill the tables in the restaurants midweek!. if the concept appeals than it's worth supporting if you are local.

For those in Glasgow, the film is at the wonderful art deco GFT (Glasgow Flm Theatre) ... and I'd reccomend Osteria Piero to follow the movie. It's a relatively recent newcomer to the restaurant scene, but it is owned by Piero, (one of the infamous Sarti brothers) and it's well worth a visit IMO.

Maybe I'll wear a red rose so that any other forum member who attend can spot me amongst the crowd? Then agan, perhaps not!

Hi Guys

Thanks for for the offer Jinty i'll keep it in mind.
Apparantly the odds of being an Italian in Glasgow coming from Barga are 40%!!! Somebody told me that one day!

Well...both my Italian best friends families are from Barga - we were there to visit them this summer and it felt like being in Newton Mearns! (Sorry specific Glasgow reference there!)
