9749 hertz car hire

Just a heads up about Hertz, had some friends come in today, went to the hertz desk to collect there pre booked car, only problem was hertz no longer take Visa debit cards at the desk, however will happily take them via there website, the desk person suggested that we paid 600e cash as the deposit for the fuel and car seat.
After clearing her head , she then basically said sod that, pay for the fuel and child seat when you drop the car back.

In case any one doesn't know, if you pay using Mastercard you get an extra 10% off the cost. Only found this out when making a telephone booking so not sure if you are asked the question online - by the way the web price is the same as for telephone bookings

Jackie

The price for most car hire seems to be the same for web or telephone bookings

I pay by Mastercard and have never got 10% off but the last time we hired a car we asked for snow chains at the airport office and she never charged us for them when we took them back so I can't grumble:nah:

You must be kidding! The link you keep on posting is at least a hundred quid more expensive on a weeks car hire than almost all others. :laughs:

Can I ask then- is Hertz the cheapest or is there anyone else you recommend from Pisa?

I have been using easycar for the last few trips?

Thanks

Use HolidayAutos myself and not miraculous they do get competitive prices and recently the car hirers tried the old "not returned full of fuel" trick and HA got my money back.

I've always found Hertz the cheapest at Pisa. I always try a combination of links as the price does vary. On booking a Ryanair flight for December today the link presented at booking the flight was more expensive than the same selection linked from the homepage of the Ryanair web site. I ended up booking via the No1 club link from the Hertz page though. Just try all the options to see what's best and sometimes there are offers on the Hertz web page (left hand side under the account details)

We always use the auto-europe booking agency Cheap Car Hire | UK Car Rental in Europe and Worldwide - Auto Europe (not to be confused with auto-europa car hire). On the odd occasion that I have found a cheaper deal I just ring them up (freephone) and they at least match it or better. You can also cancel up to 24 hours before the booking and get your money back. They seem to negotiate deals with different copmanies at different times. We have had Avis, Hertz, Europecar and Budget with them. If you have a loyality / quick check-in card with any of these companies, you can still use them. Also for any new members (it was covered by a thread about two years ago) there is a car hire insuance that you can take out in the UK that covers all excesses (including tyres, damage to underneath etc) that any car hire insurance does not cover. It is with Cheap Car Hire Excess Insurance | Insurance4carhire.com and we pay about £50 per year for it. It more than pays for itself if you hire twice or more in a year.

I always find Hertz the cheapest at Pisa. I joined their Gold Club thinking I would get better rates - guess what - it's exactly the same price!!! I always pay for the super cover, as we had an accident last year (hit a boulder) and there was no problem just changed the car. I had been wondering about these other insurance companies as they are a lot cheaper. Do you have to pay Hertz if you do any sort of damage and then claim it back or do the insurance pay Hertz direct?
........ I had been wondering about these other insurance companies as they are a lot cheaper. Do you have to pay Hertz if you do any sort of damage and then claim it back? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Yes

.

I have the Insurance4hirecars at £49 per annum. I haven't had to use it yet but I gather that when (I assume it will be when!) the excees is charged to your card and then you claim back from Insurance4hirecars. It does work out much cheaper than paying the supercover so in the event of a claim it will be more hassle than the hire company insurance.

Depends on how much you hire. More than a couple of good hirings a year and its much cheaper and also you get a much better level of cover than the supercover with the rental companies. There is another thread running that covers this - Insurance worth having

Hi
I go through BA holidays.com and their car hire section has up to now given the best rates - they get the cheapest (comparing like for like) deal and the car can be from from hertz, eurocar, avis, etc etc etc.

One of my charge cards also gives all the extra cover that you would normally have to pay for with car hire, so dont take extra cover.

Which card?

Do you have to enter a special code or bok your flight with BA?? I have just checked on the prices for when we go next in October. I have a booking of a Punto Grande for £250 with Auto-Europe yet the BA quote for the smallest car is £368

Hi Coppicer

I use the Ba holiday site when I go to the UK. Florence to Gatwick. You dont have to use ba and you dont need a special code.

As for the charge card Alan H it's an amex.

Thats food for thought. We go on Thursday and the super cover costs £94.45 for one week!
i think if I remember right the excess is about 600 or 800 euros. Think it will be worth giving hire4less? a call as we go to Italy 2 or 3 times a year generally.
Thanks everyone for info.

Which site do you use to find Hertz as the cheapest car in Pisa? It always seems quite expensive in the travelsupermarket search, as does Holiday autos. A word of warning when using Carhire 3000 who use Avis cars - they dont tell you there is a daily charge added on to be paid when the car is returned (possibly only with the cheaper cars). It's not much per day but can add up to quite a lot on a longish hire, and even a few days can make it not competitive with other car hire firms. There is also no free cancellation which is available with other firms at the cheapest end.

Ive copied, below, the posting I uploaded the other day re my Hertz bookings:;

Reading through the thread it does seem that regular hirers would do well to consider a seperate extra cover policy. Friends renting out apartments had burglars last Monday and the hire cars of both their guests were stolen..yes they broke in and took the keys and a lot more beside...quote........ Hertz unfortunately demanded €1500 as the excess for the car hire due to theft. She is trying to get it back through holiday insurance but I’m not sure that will work.

Last time we flew into Pisa, withJet2, about two years ago, we had booked car hire through Holiday Autos, as usual, and were allocated a hire withHertz, at reasonable cost.
Our flight, from Manchester arrived ten minutes after another Jet2 flight.
Jet2's car hire "partner" was HA. and HA had placed all their business with Hertz.
Two plane loads of passengers were all queued at the Hertz desk, and it took two hours to get the car.
Outside was monsoon!
Moral?

Check at least who your airline does business with.

I have always found Hertz to be the best value for money, when you take the overall cost of the hire,as opposed to the initial price qouted from other hire firms.I also book via the Ryanair link,as this price has always been better than the Hertz website price

One might also try booking via Hertz's italian website (just put .it at the end)as long as you have a codice fiscale they will (usually) rent to you even if you're a non-resident -- in our case, it's almost 30% less than booking through the US site!

I can concur, I have taken an annual policy with carinsurance4less (or similar) £49.99.
In the event of damage or theft you would still be stung by the hire company but then claim it back from your insurance.
This in effect, reduces your excesses to zero for damage and theft. Thus saving the extortionate additional insurance "offered" by the hire companies. € 22 a day with Europcar last time I checked.

After umming and aghing, before we went last week, whether to pay hertz for the supercover or get something cheaper, we decided to go with hertz. On Saturday had a 'prang'. So glad I went with hertz - no problem at all - nothing extra to pay out. I feel it was worth the extra.
