10418 Enel off peak rate

Earlir in the year we switched to an off peak rate with Enel (thanks to those of you who helped with the form filling!).

Just thought people might like to know that we have had our first "big" bill i.e. for the 2 weeks in the summer which is usually in the region of 78 to 80 euros. Bearing in mind we had a full house (6 people), the fans were on 24/7 and my son arrived mid stay bringing a large suitcase full of dirty washing from the uk! - our bill had reduced to just 35 euros - result!!

We did wonder whether the change had been effected but are extremely pleased to see that it had gone through. You get off peak rate from 8 in the evening to 8 in the morning and all weekend so if there is a similar offer at anytime I would certainly recommend switching.

I have now done my sums and would encourage others to look at the Enel site and do the same. Briefly if you have a swimming pool or a well pump you are likely to pay more rather than less if you take up Jackie's recommendation. Why? Well by opting for the off peak 8pm to 8 am option you actually agree to pay more for the electricity you use during week days...we did the sums and looked at the way we use our electricity supply and we would not benefit.

You are right Noble - it wouldn't necessarily benefit everyone as a bit like economy 7 in the uk you do pay an increased day time rate. But, if you can get into the habit of heating water at night/doing washing etc it should help.

Ps - Because we hadn't realised the switch had worked we weren't particularly stringest about our use other than using the washing machine at night so that a load was ready for hanging out the next morning - but still managed to see a significant saving. It will be interesting to see how a winter trip pans out using heaters/electric blankets during the evening.

We had this but got taken off it by Enel because we have a pellet stufa which of course runs on electricity so in the winter we use too much electricity during the day so if you live here all year round & have the same thing as us don't be surprised if you revert to the old rate
