Welcome Shubendr, when are you thinking of visiting Italy? Soon?

It would also be interesting to hear where you're considering going; would it be a "grand tour" or do you think you'll stick to one area? I assume that Bergamo will be on the list :)

A warm welcome to the forum. As David says, give us some more details about what you want to do, how much time you have and when do you want to travel. It would be easier then to give you some advice.

As a fellow American welcome to Italy Mag, you will find some good info in the region specific area on places to see and where to eat when you decide where you are going. From the States your flight choices can be limited, either Milan or Rome, so that is many times a deciding factor on what you will see. That and time constraints.

Hello MC and welcome.
Don't think about it too long and start planning, especially if you are taking hubby and the kids as well.
You could also make Florence your first port of call as Delta fly four (five in summer) times a week New York-Pisa.

Yes, Bergamo will be my first choice to visit, but I will most likely fly into Milan? since it will be closer to Bergamo??? Do not know my regions yet. I do want to visit Florence and of course Venice! :) But, I have heard Venice is a tourist trap??? But I have to see it at least once.
It will be a few years before I can get to travel. :(
I just started my prereqs. for school to work towards nursing school.....it is a 2 year course for my RN, but I want to go 4 years and get my bachelors??? Have a lot to do, but it will be worth it! My boys are grown...well one is 17, but he will be going off to college when he graduates. So, it will just be my husband and I.
Anyway....whew! Did not mean to run on and be a "chatty cathy".
That is all for now and thanks again for the replies.

Italy is such an interesting country that it would be difficult to tell you what to see or not to see. Anyway, taking into account that you are going there for the first time and you will be based in Milan, I would suggest that you take a guided tour that would take you to see the basics in a short time but well organised. By the basics, I mean Venice, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Naples, Pompei, Capri and perhaps some cities on the way. Yes, you would be "playing tourist", but you would have a guide, booked visits, everything organised for you and no time to loose. You will not go back home feeling that you missed a lot. This trip would be more of a "discovery" trip which will entice you to come back again, again and again..... because Italy will get into your heart as it has done with all those of us who participate in this forum.
Yes, some places are full of tourists... but you are one of them.... When you know more of the country, you can come on your own and visit those areas which appeal to you, but to see the basics is important on a first trip.
Best luck with all your projects and keep us informed about what you do.

Hello!
I'm new in this forum too, and I welcome you in this friendly community!
If you are thinking of Venice, then you can't miss Padova and Murano, which are not far from Venice, and are well known for their art and culture.
On the other hand, if you fly to Milan, you should also enjoy the nearby romantic lake of Como!
Yet, if you prefer naturalistic place, you can easily reach the mountains of Trentino, which are wonderful in this period!
On the other hand, if you are interested in art, another fantastic place to visit is Catania, in Sicily, caracterised for its splendid Baroc style monuments! Always in the South of Italy, is Naples which link art and gastronomy..have you ever heard about PIZZA???
what can I say? Enjoy your choice and let me know what you decide!!

Hello to you J.d'A.,
Thank you for your advice for Padova and Murano. My italy penpal in Bergamo has mentioned Como and I intend to visit there.
I live in a rural area and we have green lush mountains....hardwoods, some pine, maple and a few others.....but we also have lots of rocks that come up from the ground every year as if they were potatoes! Trentino sounds like my kind of place to see, but I want to see all I can. So, I will take the advice and sceduale a tour????
I am in a Art Appreciation class this semester and my professor is discussing Roman and Greek art this week, so I will take good notes and compare what I learn in class for when I get to see it first hand!
And by the way....I love pizza!
