moh on his way to Rome has decided to turn back - the flight will now arrive after the car hire closes. He rang the car hire office, they were convinced the flight would not be allowed to land as late as 11.45 pm and would be rerouted to Fiumicino so they will be going home. It was a cheap flight just to check things out but we will lose the prepaid car hire (and looking at the travel insurance policy you have to claim that sort of thing from the airline - Ryanair). Easyjet paid up when we were stranded after a long break due to the terrorist incident last year but I feel we will be worse off than where we started if we follow this route with Ryanair for a lost cost ticket, pay for the letter saying the flight was cancelled, £50 excess on the insurance etc etc
I just hope the holidaymakers arriving at Ciampino are planning to get the bus to central Rome and not rely on a) Ryanair arriving at Ciampino, B) the car hire place being open
