i think i posted about this festival 4 or 5 years ago and then visited it... however as far as i can recall there was no abruzzo section then...and since that time the forum has changed many times... did not go since...basically its something of a drive to get to there from here... maybe one day they will actually complete the basciano-bisenti superstrada....
i think it is getting more well known as an annual event and the wine seems to have been gathering a name for itself ... as the locals have grouped together to produce a more refined tasting wine... although as you say there are some producers better than others....
this year we have been invited along by the pro loco who organises the event... he is very interested in the amount of foreign people moving into the area and we work with him quite closely... one of the Italians that see in-comers not as a quick source of income but someone that looks to the long term and appreciates the fact that those that are there for the long term contribute into the local economy... not only spending... but adding to the community as a whole...
hopefully his interest will extend to having saved us a parking space

Did you attend Adriatica? Sunday was a fantastic day....we asked a local if it was always as well attended, they said there were more than ever this year. So Bisenti, I thank you for a wonderful day, and, am so glad to have taken a small part.

Sprat, I am looking forward to seeing you and Pilchard on the TV – will we have to tug our forelocks now you are celebrities?
Glad you had a great time, Bisenti is a lovely place.

yes we went, heard there was an English guy involved in the wine judging as well... as i say the people of Bisenti seem to be more than willing to integrate and appreciate the new arrivals... these festas/sagres wherever they are held offer all of us a chance to get known... to participate and maybe not complain about the things that are wrong so much but be happy that we live in a country with the mentality to have a good party whenever....wherever and Bisenti did it self proud... and the weather was just perfect too
after a short gap in the summer season of Fayre's it all starts up again shortly with all the traditional autumn fiestas... so its worth keeping your eyes peeled for those familiar day-glow posters....

Considering this festa is a celebration of a wine & grape variety that is unique to this small area it is a pity that it is not turned into a better wine than it usually is. I have a friend & neighbour who is passionate about wine-making & produces a superb Montonico Trebbiano fizz that tells me that 20 or so years ago it WAS a very good wine but the number of producers, making it for home consumption in the main, has diminished & there is little passion & technique is poor. The best 100% Montonico I have tasted was in fact a fizz; not the well known Cerbis which, although well made, I feel could do with more flavour. One of the judges at the recent festa tells me that he feels it would be better were it made by the Charmat method instead of the Methode Champagnoise. Would be good to see some effort made to try to produce something really special. Any budding oenologists out there?

Have you ever been Adriatica? It is great fun!
On the Sunday is the parade with floats and a procession, on other nights there are stalls selling the Montonico wine (some better then others!), stalls selling food (the tripe is excellent) and a variety of bands.
It can get very packed and is sometimes difficult to park anywhere near the centre, so it is a good idea to arrive early.
Last year it rained on the Sunday so they held the parade again the next week, so practical!
