Why would you post a link you don't understand when there are at least 100 other links about this subject you could have chosen to post - in English?
This forum goes to pot when you post like this - there is no reason to do it - it is a waste of time - yours, mine and almost everyone elses here.

Ahhhhhhhh………. Julian, if you look at the history of this site you will soon realise that Sally (AKA TURTLE) is a law unto herself. Most of the time she knows not what she posts but that does not stop her.
Sometimes she unwittingly unearths a gem, so most of us have learnt to put up with the drivel.
Be very careful of pointing out Sally’s failings, many a forum member has been banned for less!!
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Nielo - I was not pointing out Sally's failings - there are more than enough others to do that - I simply wanted to understand the motive/reason for posting something she freely admits she does not understand the content of - and if, as you say, people feel intimidated about questioning each other openly on this forum - then perhaps it's not such a good idea to remain a member anyway - so a banning for attempting to engage in debate about forum etiquette really wouldn't phase me in the slightest.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
My "problem" with Turtle is that she seems to treat this discussion board as some sort of a private "club" - or a social networking site, such as Bebo or Facebook. When she posts items about Italy without having any seeming idea as to what it is all about, then I just smile wryly - but she does tend to have the odd period when she gets carried away and starts posting drivel that has absolutely nothing to do with any kind of Italian subject. Maybe she fantasises her role is to act as a kind of "notizie" service - although the magazine already does that on it's front page. Turtle is in that period at the moment, sadly. Secondo me...
Turtle. If you click past the ignore bit, please - use your own voice and show us all that you have some intelligence. Please.
ETA. I think this thread should be either consigned to the Circolo - or the dustbin. Certainly, it isn't anything to do with politics - Italian or otherwise.

Yes I agree; this thread serves no useful purpose and would best be binned, but you are still missing the point.
If you really want to know what the point is, pm me for an explanation, it is better not to discuss it publicly.

If you don't like the post, ignore it. Responding in a grumpy fashion just makes you look ridiculous. (Oh, look: I'm doing it now.)
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
I found this article by accident. I noted the names and some decison imminent and I thought that it might interest certain people here in a more positive manner. J+C, Nardini and others please just put me on your Ignore List. Better that way. Cheers.

But, at least responding is showing that I (we, even) have the strength of our convictions and that I (we) have the desire to see a stronger, more interesting public forum. Either that, Steve,or I (we) are just proving that we are truly "grumpy old men". I could witter on about how the serious bits of the board should be just that - serious. But, I realise that it is hardly worth the effort, in reality(ish). I can't wait to see the outcome of, "I noted the names and some decison (sp) imminent " that was mentioned though...
Oooo, Errrrrr missus...:eeeek:

In my view a public forum isnt about what the individual wants however annoying other peoples posts may be to them it relies on all members opinions, and trying to give them equal value, thats what makes it a forum, so if you dont like a certain post or a certain style of posting on a regular basis ignore it.
I acknowledge that members have strong views but these are not always shared by everyone, there is nothing lost by healthy debate, but perhaps the realisation that one is not the cleverest, most articulate, and therefore only right thinking voice of the forum is to be considered
This is not directed at any member just my reflections having been a part of the evolving forum for rather a long time.

But, A&R, there is the point to consider that in a supposedly serious section of the forum, posting trivia and nonsense is not just annoying, but will turn the more serious parts of the board into a farce. There is a perfectly good area for chatter called the "Circolo di conversazione", a non-public section where such nonsense can be posted and enjoyed. To treat all sections as ones personal graffiti board is both detrimental to the board and very rude to those many people that enjoy a serious conversation from time to time. This is supposedly about Italian politics, yes?
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Ah yes but this is your trivia and nonsense, and your opinion that it is rude and I agree that it is probably annoying to some members, but you cannot control what you want to read, and the nature of the forum is that people do go off thread, however irritating this might be when you want to have a serious discussion. You cannot police the forum just because you dont like the content, as many have found in the past.

I don't really understand why you have to take it all so personally, Angie. Perhaps you might like to take the matter up with Ronald and his web designer to remove the designations on all of the sections - that way you can say whatever you like, wherever you like. However, I still maintain that "Italian Politics" is not the place to post unrelated garbage without any joined-up thinking or even any knowledge of what you are posting!
I'm sorry you feel that my opinion is "rude" and that I am "not the cleverest, most articulate, and therefore only right thinking voice of the forum". Never mind. Perhaps you might like to consider moving this conversation over to the "Circolo" though, eh? You can be as rude as you like to me there - out of the public gaze, as it were.

Would it not be easier for one of the Mods to delete this thread.............just a thought ?
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Misquote Nardini, out of context, I clearly stated that my reflections were not directed at any member, certainly not at you so please reread my post, it is not my style to be rude to any member of this forum, so calm down, I appreciate that when reading posts it is sometimes difficult not to read more into them than was intended, and when one might feel challenged defend oneself out of all proportion to what has actually been said.
I am not taking anything personally, that is your assumption, this is only a forum and whilst interesting and informative and sometimes funny, not in any sense "real" enough " to merit such a reaction on my part. Those days are long gone and with new members we have all moved on....or found other places in which we are happier.

I know, I just can't let it go, can I!

It's not really about forum rules though is it? It's about attempting to engage with a member who refuses to modify posting habits - but one thing I have noticed (and I am aware it has been pointed out before) is that when threads like this are remarked upon - even with the best of intentions to smooth ruffled feathers - the originator very often stirs the pot - not by engaging in debate - but by thanking certain posts and retreating again - which only proves the thread is being read.
It's all pointless to everyone - except the original poster - who, rather than considering any other options available still has the gall to suggest we place her on our ignore list!
If we did that, 75% of the forum posts would, at times, disappear from view! :laughs:
And to anyone who says "if you dont like a thread/post - dont read it" - I would say - how do you know if you like it until you have read it?

If a court case about corruption, involving the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy and the husband of a British Cabinet Minister, isn't "politics", then what is?
I suppose Berlusconi probably doesn't consider a mere $600,000 "real" politics. He deals in billions.

It was an interesting development to hear Berlusconi appeared to threaten a shake-up of the legal system if the court made the 'wrong' decision & decide against granting immunity from prosecution to the top dogs (so they aren't, ahem distracted in office).
